My 21 month old daughter has been throwing up like crazy, and she got some on the rug. I can't get the smell out. What can I do? It is NASTY! Thank you so much, in advance, for your help and suggestions.

Rub some baking soda into the carpet and let it sit there like 5-10 min, and then hit it with some vinegar and let it sit there until it's done bubbling. Then put some towels down and clean it up that way by like standing on the towels. If the vinegar smell is too much afterwards you can hit it with a little water.

Will that mess with the color of the rug? It's a red, shag rug.

Have you tried Resolve carpet spray? We've used that on some major poop messes on the carpet and it did a really good job. Hopefully it'd work on the pukey...

If it is just the smell and you already cleaned up the visible mess, Febreeze is some kind of miracle stink cleaner. It really does take the stench out of anything.

Is she better today? I meant to ask you. :)

Poor thing and poor you!

We've tried the anti-bacterial Febreze, but that smell is making me nauseas because we use it every time she messes up the rug!

She seems to be doing better today...no vomiting yet...but every time she has a weird look on her face or she makes a noise I don't recognize, it is a mad dash to grab her and get her to the kitchen...

You may something called " Nature's Miracle" you actually get it at the pet store. I used it all the time when my puppeis pee'd on the floor. I don't know if it will effect the color maybe snip off a piece and try it firdt but the big ingredient is rubbing alchohol. So you might be safe. I use it on all my carpet, it is beige, and haven't had a problem with fading yet.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I actually decided to try the Nature's Miracle because we had some in the house. I need more though...

I absolutely LOVE oxyclean. You can find it next to the laundry detergent. You just mix it with water. When my son had a bad ‘incident’ like yours, I mixed it with water, (You can find mixing directions on the back) and just scrubbed the carpet with a scrub brush, blotted it dry, and all was good as new. I use oxyclean for everything! I didn’t want to by Dreft when I had my 18month old, so I started to just soak her cloths that were horribly stained in the washer over night, and have been able to save so many cute outfits! It will absolutely work, and it won't harm your carpet at all.
