I think that story wouldn't have been as powerful as it was if Edward hadn't sucked the venom out. Edward did it and he learned that he could be strong and take care of her because he loved her so much.

I think it was so romantic that Edward was the one to keep Bella from changing into a vampire by sucking out the Venom. Ahh, romantic and kinda sexy too. Plus, it was probably a real treat for him to get a little taste of her, LOL.

Seriously though, as everyone has stated before me, other than Carlisle, who was busy stopping her from bleeding to death, Edward was the only one with the real motivation to be able to successfully devenomize her without accidentally killing her.

queenofmycastle you are right on the money.

Carlisle was leaving the choice up to Edward. He doesn't try to convince him to do it, but he insists that if this is the life for Bella, that Edward needs to be the one in control of her transformation.

Sucking the venom out was for me, the perfect display of Edward's love for her. He is able to taste her blood but keep her alive. MIND OVER MATTER INDEED!

I am listening to it again and got to this point. When Alice says "Edward you have to do it" he says NO! really angry-like.
Hmmmm, could they have been talking about him letting her change? Because he almost seems surprised when Carlisle tells him that it's not too late to suck the venom out right after that.

Good point. I think that the "Carlisle-is-stabilizing-her" thing is a little bit of a cop-out, since Edward mentions that he has assissted Carlisle many times before and has pretty extensive medical knowledge. Maybe not enough to do open heart surgery, but I'm sure it's enough to stop some bleeding and take care of a broken leg.

So I think that Alice is probably thinking something about changing her... and Edward is the only one who doesn't want her to change that could actually do it. He has the most motivation to suck venom only and save her human life. As we see in the Vote, even Carlisle thinks Bella and Edward would be better off with Bella as a vamp.

I did think it was pretty rough of them to have him try it, though. Maybe Carlisle was thinking he would just change Bella instead of sucking it out? And then they wouldn't have this perpetual problem? I don't know. It sure does seem like needless risk/pain for Edward...

I took it to mean that Carlisle was treating Bella's injuries. Alice is unsure of herself. She doesn't know if she could NOT kill Bella. Jasper and Emmett are handling James. So that leaves Edward. Although Edward isn't sure if he will kill her or not, he is the one that loves her and would be torn up so it's a matter of faith and trust in himself to do the job and save Bella.

I agree with this. Alice wouldn't have had the strength to stop at that point in time, and probably would have killed her. Carlisle could have done it and had Edward stop the bleeding in her head. I think that Carlisle did want him to make the choice whether she was changed at that point or not. He knew Edward's feelings about Bella becoming like them at that point and wanted him to choose. I think it was amazing that he stopped, it showed immense self control.

I wondered that too but Edward was able to show restraint which was important if he was to stay with her. Besides, Carlisle couldn't take out the venom and determine how to help her, medically that is.
