Yes, I know what you mean! Poor Edward, constantly oscillating back and forth no longer sure what to believe.  Before Bella he was so obstinately confident that he knew exactly what was what in the world. No surprises or mysteries and although that must have felt safe in it's own weird way, it also made him hopeless and miserable. And then Bella came along and made him question his black & white feelings and beliefs - and suddenly he doesn't know what to think! Everything is confusing and uncontrollable but also filled with love and a degree of hope. In the end the trade-off is absolutely worth it, but after 100+ years it must be an incredibly difficult adjustment! I just want him to believe in his own soul - because if Edward couldn't have one then who could?! |
Before Bella, he was miserable. The first chapter of Midnight Sun absolutely depressed me to think of spending everyday the same. And we can't even fathom it because we have no scope to measure everyday of a hundred years or more. Everything is turned upside down (good and bad ways) for this girl that he wanted to kill so badly. And how sad that he's so in love with her and knowing him, has a guilty conscience everyday that he could've wanted to kill her so badly. I know he told her he was dangerous and wanted her blood like you couldn't believe, but I didn't realize how vividly he visualized killing her. How sad.
I know what you mean about his soul. He's just so good. |
Yes! The first time I read MS, I was shocked at the extreme bloodlust he had for Bella too, but I loved the drama of it. And being in Edward's mind is so amazing! He is just so conflicted - it makes all the scenes that much more fun to read (IMO).
That's why I love this picture - it really captures how alone Edward was even among his family:

Haha - which brings me back to an idea I've mentioned in other threads. We need to clone Edward! Then we can each have our own official Edward to hug -and the original Edward can be happy with Bella! 
Enough cloning sheep already - the world needs more Edwards!

OK - I'll help you in your quest then. The part in Eclipse where Edward kisses Bella before they go into the Cullen's house for the graduation party - and Bella can tell how afraid he is by the desperate way he kisses her. And Edward isn't the type to get afraid easily. I felt so bad for him!!

OK, does this have to be part of the books or can it include outkes or extras. What about in Roselies News in the extras on Stephs website. When Edward declares life meaningless and well with out Bella it is THEN he find out shes dead!

Yes, exactly! The graduation scene always tears me up because Edward is always so good at having a poker face even when he's really upset, but that time he just couldn't pull himself together to even respond properly to Charlie. By Edward standards, it took him a long time to get himself calm. And since he's so used to reading everyone's minds he's never surprised at anything (other than Bella's reactions) - so it must have been doubly shocking!
bellandedwardslullaby, yes - the whole first page of that outtake is agonizing! The way he thinks everything is meaningless without Bella and he beats himself up - thinking that he can't do anything right by her! Argh!

Yes, he's used to being so sharp and clever and one step ahead of everyone else and in this instance he was blindsided! To be honest, I was surprised he didn't catch on sooner, too.
