OH...I have decided, it's not going to end. I am going to petition SM to write all the books from Edwards pov and publish them. Then she can write them from Jacobs pov, then Charlies, then.........
IN the meantime I'm just praying for Midnight Sun. |
Yeah, that´s exactly what I am thinking about _________________

Well, it doesn't make me happy by any means that this is ending but after my HP mourning, I might be a little better prepared for this ending.
Chief Swan, I think you are right that so many people get wrapped up in this books because of the Edward/Bella/Jacob triangle they have going on. I would love to see Carlisle's side of the story. I would love to hear it from the beginning and see the struggles that he went through before he started his family and how he started the family.
There are so many back story's that SM could pull out of these stories. It's just like the HP series. Rowling could write a whole other series about Harry's parents and the first Order of the Phoenix. We can only be hopeful that SM will be a little more willing to share these fascinating back story's than Rowling has been. _________________

I don't think the obsession will end...I have only read 3 other books since reading the Twilight saga...I will NEVER stop reading the Twilight saga...they will be buried with me in my casket so they will always be with me! I have made so many great friends on TM's that I will always have Twilight with me in some way or another!! Chief Swan,
Funny you should say that psychologists should study the cultural effect of TW. I am a part time psychology professor, maybe I should assign a class project doing just that! Although, I felt more like a college student when I read the series than a professor. I still hope that SM has much more to write, at this point I have no interest in reading anything else. I think we need to coin a new psychological term dealing with TW withdrawl and depression, we may need to find some therapy options as well!
We may need to start a new topic here at TM and do some peer and group theray for our post DB depression.

I'm totally with all of you and have contemplated in serious meaure how I'm going to feel after Aug 2nd. I too felt a sort of morning after HP7 and I am way more addicted to Twilight.
I think what will keep me going is Midnight Sun. My 2 cents are that we are definitely going to get this. I don't have any inside scoop or anything I just feel confident from what Steph has said that we will get this and I love that she has left it open that down the line she might do more about the Cullens, etc. unlike JKR who seems so adamant not to give us any more HP.
And I simply adore the "Friends don't let friends forget Twilight!!!" LOVE IT!!! _________________ Nobody does "happily ever after" like Stephenie, nobody!!!!

I agree with the thought that this series could be termed the "Pride and Prejudice" etc of our time. I have to admit, my daughter and I are completely in love with these books, HOWEVER, they are not the first books that I have had such feelings for - I still have my copy of Hadassah from several years ago and I love it as much today as I did then. It seems you can learn something from it each time you reread (or revamp if it's Twilight). Maybe you could call it an experiential thing - depending on what's going on in your life at the moment, you can pull something different from revamping each time. I have only reread Twilight once and it was not the same experience as reading it the first time - it was BETTER. I am kinda dreading revamping the first part of New Moon (as I had my own set of blank pages the first part of this year) but I am sure I will get a different experience from it this time around. My daughter's experience has been the same - she gets a fresh look at it each time she reads it - and this child can tell you page numbers, paragraphs, which side of the book it's on, etc.
So, my long way to say, I don't think our Twilight experience has to end just because there will not be a new book out, maybe for a while, maybe forever. I personally am choosing to block out the thought that there would never be another book to go in the series. Stephenie loves these characters and I don't think she would abandon them, but I can understand her being overwhelmed and ready for a break. She is a working mom and we KNOW how that is.
And then, there is the passing it along to new people! Oh how can I forget that?? You know - you insist someone read it - they look at you like you're crazy? Then they read and come back glowing? You get to bask in all that NEWNESS all over again.
We just have to take over the world....

I hope so too, Innamorata. I wish that someone out there who has any sort of influence on Stephenie could get her to continue the saga of Edward/Bella/Jacob. I don't have a fraction of Stephenie's imagination, but with the Denali clan and the Volturi alone there are so many angles that can be worked up into fresh story ideas. Who knows what new stuff is out there?
Who would have her ear, I wonder, a Twilight Mom petition? Her publishers?
We're all excited over BD and MS, so the immediate future is secure. I'm looking beyond that. Wouldn't it be more than terrific if, during some uber-cool SM event after the release of Midnight Sun, Stephenie would announce that the saga would continue? I'm afraid the internet would suffer a meltdown if that announcement were ever to be made.
Then again, to burst the bubble, it can be said that the whole premise or big idea of the saga is, "normal girl meets vampire boy". Once the girl is normal no more, time to wrap things up and move on. Wouldn't it be something if Bella's expected transformation in Breaking Dawn doesn't take place at all, due to some mind-blowing plot twist? A major theme in the books is that the characters don't quite get what they want, and there's that longing and expectation that leaves us desperate to read what comes next.
That's something else to ponder. How far can or should the original Twilight premise be stretched? Can the magic continue, or should the page finally be turned? _________________ fair to red, red to purple, purple to blue...

I would also love to hear Carlisle's story...starting from before he became a vampire up until now, but also the same thing with all the other characters. Who were they before they were changed? How did they feel after? It's just to hard to say goodbye!
(I also tried to put off reading the last few chapters of HP 7 so it wouldn't finish so soon, but that didn't happen.) _________________

Debrah, I'm glad that you agree that a serious study should be made into the Twilight phenomenon (and a phenomenon is just what it is). That kind of study would yield insights into just what happens when a simple idea ignites in the minds of millions of people and spreads like a wildfire and refuses to die out. Never mind what makes us tick; what lights a flame in our hearts? More than a few major corporations, political parties and governments would love to know just how that happens and how it can be bottled!
Just about every book fills a niche in the literary market. But Twilight seems to be able to affect just about anyone with a love of fiction, young and old, male and female, and across cultures as well. How often does that happen? Most books, we read then put back on the shelf then forget about. What keeps Twilight by our bedside? What makes us smile when we see a Volvo C30 flash by, or say the words, "you can Google it?"
Anyway, in a world filled with bad news on top of more bad news, Twilight is a welcome refuge for a lot of us. Somehow a world where some of us become vampire nourishment just doesn't seem that bad.
My problem now is that other books, post Twilight, just don't seem that interesting. I just want to read the saga over and over again, and I'm starting to get worried about that. That's probably why I have written about my concerns about Twilight coming to an end. I could never get my ten-year old to read before, but as soon as she got to the first page she was hooked in a big way and my guess is that she's read the saga about five times over and there's no end in sight. I've been trying to get her to read other books, but she just asks me "is Edward in it?" and the discussion is over, because I know what she's talking about.
Stephenie is in her mid-thirties, so there's my great hope that her literary output will continue for decades to come. I just hope (selfishly, I know) that a major portion of that will be the continuing story of Edward, Bella and Jacob.
Otherwise, any offers of therapy for Post Twilight Saga Depression? _________________ fair to red, red to purple, purple to blue...

I would love to read Carlisle's story, what a great idea! It would be fascinating!
As far as mourning the end goes, I don't feel like this is quite the end that I knew HP was. I was so split about the last HP book coming out. I wanted to read it sooo much, but at the same time, as the release date kept getting closer, I knew it was just getting closer to the end of Harry's story and that whole world, and it made me sad.
But as far as the Twilight saga goes, I think I will be more sad after MS comes out. I know BD is the end of the story for Bella and Edward, but I am just sooo excited to hear everything from Edward's point of view! And while we'll know what happens as far as the sotryline goes, being able to hear Edward's thoughts will be like a dream come true! (Sigh) _________________

CullenFascination is right about the great feeling you get when you light that Twilight fire in someone else. My sisters and their daughters had never heard of it until I told them how crazy it all was, and I have an aunt recently retired from the UN who wanted tips on some good stuff to read.
I'm half the globe away from anything happening Twilight-wise, but will a couple of fans at some of the Breaking Dawn signings PLEASE tell Stephenie (begging, grovelling and wailing would be helpful)NOT to let the magic end, to keep Bella, Edward and Jacob alive. It didn't work with JK Rowling, but SM might be more receptive! _________________ fair to red, red to purple, purple to blue...

I guess we can comfort ourselves with the movies that will be following the books as well. I prefer the books of course, but at least there will be that to look forward to also. Has SM said anything in her interviews that might allude to future writings in the series besides Midnight Sun? _________________

I think she said something in a Borders Media interview about possible books "5 and 6", not including Midnight Sun. But I don't recall her saying anything more definite than that. She also said that she was pretty much vampired out and also made reference to politics in the publishing world burning her out. She was also definite in saying that Bella's story had come to an end.
So it's a mixed bag, partly hopeful, partly discouraging.
If anyone out there can supply more accurate information about what she actually said, please do so.
That's pretty far short of saying, yes, Twilight will definitely continue. A lifetime supply of Billy Black's fish fry to any fan that can get her to say the magic words... _________________ fair to red, red to purple, purple to blue...
