When I heard that Breaking Dawn was going to be the fourth and final book, I was devastated, how could Edward be taken away!? But then I heard about Midnight Sun and felt a little better.
I have read the series I dont know how many times. At first I was afraid I would tire of it, but every time I read one of the books I get so caught up in them and cant put them down.
I think Breaking Dawn will just be the end of Bella and Edwards story Crying or Very sad (As long as Edward shows up in other books I'll be ok).
I would love for Jacob to have his own story. I like the werewolves and would love to read more about them, get a real insight on the whole imprinting thing (instead of through just what Jaocb says)
I also think, that maybe a book about other characters introduced in the series would be interesting. Like maybe Gianna and Demetri (from New Moon) Demetri falls in love with Gianna but the Volturi want her dead and he has to rescue her, that would be neat. I think SM would come up with a way to make Demetri a good guy.

I think she did say she did have book 5 in mind, the original characters would remain, it just wouldnt be in Bellas point of view.

Maybe what happens to US at TMs.com is the something similar to the point in the movie "Forrest Gump" when, after a couple of years of running coast to coast, he just stops one day. And there we are, on the highway, wondering what then to do with ourselves Mr. Green

Seriously though, I am thrilled and certain that, as with Harry Potter, there will be many more people who will continue to enthuse over books and there will be another great book (or series) sometime in the future that will capture hearts and minds. Anything to get kids reading books and off the video games and sofa in front of the TV is OK by me.

As for those of us who love and "need" Twilight; maybe it has taught us that we haven't forgotten how to be young and maybe we need to remember what it's like to treat ourselves while we're so busy taking care of others.

I guess all good things come to an end... Crying or Very sad But a girl can dream, can't she? Imagine how Stephenie will feel when she makes her final edit on the final book - whenever that must be. It has to be almost like a death of sorts, althought the characters do live on in writing. It makes me so sad just thinking about it.

That's the really crazy thing about Stephenie Meyer's Twilight novels. We've all read tons of other books, finished with them, put them back on the shelf, then moved on and forgot about them.

With Twilight, the books become part of your life long after you've turned the last page. They become your life! If that's not crazy I don't know what is!

How many other books have inspired 200-something websites, millions of posts, fan videos, etc. She's found a very deep place in all of us that none knew existed.

Which is why I hope the saga continues, way beyond Bella's telling of the story. I wish there was a way to reach out to Stephenie and tell her to keep that magic alive, to explore the Twilight universe she created more fully. The Host is a really great book, but honestly, I don't think it will inspire fans the way Twilight has. It hasn't hit that same nerve and maybe some of its shine actually is a reflection from the other books (no hate mail about this remark, please!)

Stephenie would probably recoil at my words, but I would be happy as a clam to just read more and more of Twilight in the years and decades to come. I would hate for her to explore other worlds only to realize years after that she got it exactly right the first time. Twilight could be the richest and greatest creative franchise in history, if only she would stick to it. Just think, each extension of the saga, whether backwards or forwards in time, or laterally (with new characters in the present) would open up new areas of that universe for all of us to enjoy all the more, and so on.

There's something different about Twilight that I can't put my finger on, but it's something very, very special and if she exercised her undeniable right as a writer and moved on to other things I think that that would be a very sad day for a lot of us. I know I'm being incredibly selfish. Who knows what other literary treasures Stephenie would uncover if she chose to write about, say, pirates? Stockbrokers? More aliens?

I'm sure I'm prejudging what she's capable of. But like I've already said, she got it right the first time.

I know exactly what you mean, Chief Swan. I now think of my life in terms of BFTW(before Twilight) and TWE (Twilight Era). The very thought of not having TW in my life makes my chest hurt and breathing difficult and to paraphrase one of the books (but I can't remember where it is - must be time to re-vamp, again!) "I couldn't live in a world were [Twilight] doesn't exist". Or maybe it would be more precise to say I couldn't live in a world where Bella & Edward don't exist together.

I read a fanfic once that was very good but Bella and Edward both died in the end. I was depressed for days afterwards and I still get depressed if I think about it. The only cure is re-vamping.

I suspect that SM will miss Forks so much that she'll return again and again even if she does venture into other realms like The Host. She does have MS at least half done and she has talked about writing from Bree's pov at some point. So I look forward to that and keep praying for the rest of the saga to be adapted for the big screen. Very Happy

If you are as obsessed as I am, it won't end. I am telling you that the are some REALLY great fanfics out there. That has kept me busy for a long time. In between Breaking Dawn and the movie, that is what I will be doing.

Thanks, Kasandra and Josben. I agree that there are great fanfics out there, but I hope you would both agree that there's nothing in the world like having a brand new Twilight saga book to look forward to.

I wish the Twilight Moms site would have a contest for "Top Ten Questions for Stephenie" or "Top Ten Twilight Fan Wishes" or something like that. We would throw in our list, and the great Twilight Moms who run this site would choose the best ones for her to reply to them. I'm pretty sure "Never stop writing the Twilight saga" would be somewhere in that list, or ought to be! I would certainly like to hear what she would say about that.

I hope I'm mistaken, but it's been "a while" since SM has had direct contact with this site, busy as she is. Having her respond to our wish and question list would be a great way to touch base again. One can say that we here represent her adult readers, so we ought to count for something shouldn't we?

I have already lived through the end of the Harry Potter series. Tough, really tough. It felt like you lost a friend. I think I will make it through this one. It was different for me with this series because I have only been hooked for a month. I waited years for all the Potters to come out. It was agony.
"Breaking Dawn" will be out soon and I will have a new part of the saga to crawl into. I am on my second go round with these books and they just keep getting better and better. As long as we have the books, these characters will never leave us. To me, these books are the "Pride and Prejudice" and "Sense and Sensibility" of our era. No matter how many times we read them, we ache and love right along with the characters.

Good GRIEF, DO NOT get me started on how hard the ending of the HP series has been. I read HP7 over and over hoping, SOME HOW it would not be the end.

Some of the ideas for additional books....spin offs if you will....sound really interesting and if that's where Stephenie Meyers goes with it I'll be along for the ride!!

TW ending??? Don't even wanna think about it.

It is so interesting to me to read that so many of your felt about the Harry Potter series as I do. I literally went into a mild depression when I finished the 7th book. I knew there were no more coming out and that was it. Movies, fine, but not the same as the book. I was so sad. When I first completed Eclipse I also felt a mild depression. I felt that my house was empty (though I have a husband and 2 children) and that my "friends" were gone. I felt almost lost without a new Twilight book to read. At least I knew that another one was being published, if only I could wait that long! I am really concerned about how I will feel once I finish DB. The effect these books have is amazing. The characters are my friends. I feel like a crazy person that I feel this way, but I cannot help it. I hope that SM will continue to write books that we will all love to read. She has said that there are more stories to tell about the other characters. Bella and Edward will have their say and we will have to move on. At least we know that we are here for each other when that happens!

Very well put, Debrah! It's really amazing how these books have touched the lives of us readers, especially since Stephenie only intended to write a simple story for her own enjoyment. Maybe someday psychologists will study the cultural effect of the saga and how it has come to be loved by such a diverse range of people.

As to the books coming to an end, I'm hopeful they won't, but SM has already definitely stated that Bella's story arc is over with Breaking Dawn, and that she's getting vampired-out at the moment. I'm worried that her incredible schedule of tours and other promotional events is getting her to a point of burnout. Anyway, she's a natural writer and I hope her urge to get stories out into the world will win out in the end.

As I've said earlier. I do hope she writes about the Cullens from Carlisle's point of view, but that's a whole new challenge altogether, having to create a world set in a much earlier time from the present. That's a whole new ball of wax altogether. I'm also afraid that for a lot of Twilight readers, it's the Bella/Edward/Jacob triangle that captures their hearts.

I also don't agree, now that I think about it, that Bella's story has to end. I'm sure that a writer of SM's talent can think of an endless series of story elements and plotlines to introduce ad infinitum. Each novel can bring something new to the table that succeeding novels can build up on. But it's her decision and there's nothing anyone else can do. As I understand it, she basically outlined the whole of Bella's story right at the outset, from Twilight to Breaking Dawn, so she may be thinking in terms of that box.

I'm wondering if some show of fan encouragement would get her to continue with the saga of Bella, Edward and Jacob, with no definite "last" novel for us to mourn over.

I just can't see this ending. Bama Twilighter, I remember feeling sad about Harry Potter ending. My older child grew up with Harry Potter. Those books will always have a special significance for me. My son was about eight when The Sorcerer's Stone came out.

I agree with you, Kasandra, in reference to defining a time line based on Twilight: BFTW and TWE. It does feel like a mark in history.

Lauralee, I can't believe that with all the lit I've read, I too have never read anything that has captured my heart like the TW books. Just today I was saying this to a colleague (we both have graduate degrees in literature) how I have never been so enamored of a story. She is waiting for her copy of Twilight to come in the mail. She has no clue what she's in for.

These books will be enjoyed for time to come. There will be many forums dedicated to them. I feel confident that TMs will continue whether SM keeps writing about the Twilight characters or not. Whether through fan fiction, discussion of the characters, songs, artwork or poems inspired by the characters, our beloved Edward and Bella will never be far from us. We just won't let them go. I don't think SM will either. They are too much a part of her.

I must have been writing my post when yours came on. I agree. SM can really have an infinite number of situations with characters who will live forever (hopefully, Bella will become an immortal, that is,) not to mention just creating little snippets like the outtakes that we love so much. I never tire of them.

I have a feeling that after some recuperation from all the tours, SM will once again visit with Bella and Edward. I mean even Conan Doyle had to bring Sherlock Holmes back! Smile
