Ok a question....
I remember in high school Football was everything. How do you think the Cullens keep the football coach away from Emmett? Or the basketball coach away from Jasper and Edward? I would assume in a small town like that the coaches would be all over Emmett to play.
Also, it is clear that all Juniors have to take gym, how do you think Edward and Alice do in gym. If they were star athletes, like we know they really are, wouldnt the coaches be constantly trying to get them to play? Do you think they fake clumsiness in gym or have "doctor's" notes to get out of it? |
I've wondered about gym class too - they must have to be SO careful not to hit the ball, etc. too hard and injure any humans!
I wonder if the inherent sense to stay away from the Cullens helps at all. Maybe the coaches just refrain from inviting the Cullens from joining any sports teams because they get negative vibes around them? _________________ "I am purely full of joy, because I am missing nothing. Also, the whole town knows how committed the Cullens are to "family time," going camping and backpacking together every other weekend, missing school to go on treks (or so the town thinks)...they have the excuse of their outdoor lifestyle for not being able to squeeze in sports training schedules and game calendars and such. _________________

Good point, Shimmerskin!
I've always wondered how the Cullens get away with all those absences. Even if you get good grades usually public schools will throw a fit if you miss over the allowed number of sick days. Hmm... _________________ "I am purely full of joy, because I am missing nothing. No one has more than I do now."

I wondered that too, but remember when Edward 'dazzles" the secretary to get out of school and take Bella home early? They must use their attractivness to humans to get away with it, along with their prefect grades. I'm sure Carlisle and Esme can be quite convincing. _________________

They stumbled upon it back in December while looking up actors in Harry Potter movies, because they'd heard one of the guys bears an amazing resemblance to Edward. |
I'm glad I take the time to read through threads because nine times out of ten shimmerskin has already had my thoughts...exactly. Although I have a feeling that Alice shops a lot on line too! _________________

Hey, I've been meaning to ask, where is the Hotties thread? I've never seen it and am curious! Thanks to anyone who can give me the link! _________________ "I am purely full of joy, because I am missing nothing. No one has more than I do now."

At the schools here, if you have a doctor's excuse you can miss tons of school and nothing is said. I'm betting they can all sign Carlisle's name better than he can.

Haha! I guess it helps when you have a doctor in the family, huh? Although how Carlisle gets away with so many spontaneous days off (hunting, sunny days, fighting newborns, chasing James, etc.) is a mystery to me too! _________________ "I am purely full of joy, because I am missing nothing. I think there is some reference in Twilight to Bella and Edward comparing their taste in movies. I can just picture the Cullens going to see something like X-Men at the theater and muttering "Big deal, I did that twice last week" after some big special effect. |
I can so see Emmett saying something like that!!! hehe That is great!! _________________

Remember in Phoenix when Jasper and Alice are just staring at the TV but not watching? I wonder if they do watch tv. What would their favorite shows be? I think Rosalie would be obsessed with the WE channel and their wedding shows. Do you think Jasper and Emmett watch WWE RAW and then act out the matches?? lol _________________

You're right! I'm sure Emmett watches wrestling! Now, when this came up elsewhere I had two particular ideas in mind that haven't changed, so I'll just copy and paste what I said:
| Shimmerskin wrote: |
C'mon, they'd be total Quantum Leap fans! They'd love watching Sam and Al visiting all the different time periods the Cullens themselves have lived through, and they'd eagerly await each episode to see how Sam would "pass" as something he's not and try to fit into new situations, all while shielding his true identity and circumstances. They would relate to all of that. They would also sympathize about the measures he takes to avoid his cover being blown. I like to think they'd be enamored of the idea that he can use the peculiar skills "God or Time or Fate" has visited upon him in order to "put right what once went wrong." They'd fantasize about using their own talents in a similar fashion (although Carlisle already does that, to a certain extent) and laugh at themselves for thinking it. That secret fantasy is partly why Edward is so amused by Bella's "superhero" theories, don't you know....
Before Edward Cullen came along to dazzle me, there was Dr. Sam Beckett. Ahhhhhh ::quavery girly sigh::
QL would have something for everyone. Carlisle would relate to Sam's skill as a healer. Jasper would relate to Sam's gallantry and chivalry. Edward would appreciate his sheer brilliance in every subject and the fact that he's such a fish out of water. Esme would be touched by Sam's constant desire to get back home, and his great love for his family. Emmett shares Al Calavicci's irreverent attitude and the way he never takes anything seriously. Alice would be intrigued by all the role-playing Sam has to adopt, and Rosalie...well, I'm not sure what Rosalie enjoys. But I think she would relate to the way Sam has been plunged into a life (or a series of lives) he didn't ask for and can't get away from.
On another channel, I wonder if, since meeting Bella, Edward is secretly viewing "Dharma & Greg" reruns. You know, where the girl and guy come from vastly different backgrounds and utterly separate worldviews, and have to overcome all kinds of obstacles to be together, but they share a genuine love for one other and the willingness to compromise and make it work. It probably gives him hope that it can all come true. He just doesn't want anyone to know that he watches it.

Other people had way-awesome suggestions that you can view here in the full conversation:

I love your reasons for QL! That show actually crossed my mind when I was thinking of shows they might watch. I'm sure they have it on DVD and watch it over again when bored. I could see Alice watching all the shows on the CW to keep up with teenage slang and fashion. And Esme is a H&G fantatic and all the design shows on TLC. _________________

I like your choices. Do you think they watch the news a lot (or get it off the internet) in order to keep tabs on possible bad-vamp activity around the world?
I've also wondered if any of them like to ride horses. Would they want to eat them or not? They wouldn't have any natural cravings for them...so they might enjoy equestrianship (if they could convince the horses to even let them near), but on the other hand, they might consider horses abominably slow. _________________

Maybe they go Cheetah riding when in Africa! Like when Emmett and Rosalie went to Africa instead of college. LOL. Could you just see Rose riding a Ostrich and Emmett next to her on a Cheetah??!! What a fantastic visual!
Well we know they saw about the murders in Seattle so they must keep up with the news somehow. And their clothes are always in fashion and expensive, I'd imagine they order it online or at least browse the fashion designers websites alot. I could see Emmett making youtube videos or himself doing stupid stuff and then Carlisle having to scold him and take them down as to not draw attention to themselves. lol. _________________
