If you were to reduce the size of the solar system so that the sun was the size of a soccer ball, the planet Pluto (yes I insist on still calling it a planet!) would be the size of the head of a pin and would be about 1000 yards (about 10 football fields) away from the sun (soccer ball). The earth would be about the size of a peppercorn.

Whew! I was having a Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy moment!

Kinda puts it all into perspective...

There are 14 million termites for every one person on Earth.

They are also, as a collective organism, the second biggest natural producer of methane in the world (one of the greenhouse gases impacting global warming). Cows are the first.

Here's some more to make us smarter (for today at least)

TYPEWRITER, is the longest word that can be made using the letters on only one row of the keyboard.

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of long words.

The first Ford cars had Dodge engines.

If you add up the numbers 1-100 consecutively (1+2+3+4+5 etc) the total is 5050

Almonds are members of the peach family.

Tomatoes are actually considered a fruit.

Hummingbirds can't walk.
Rats can't vomit, that's why rat poison works.
Babies start dreaming even before they're born.
The first product that Sony came out with was the rice cooker.
Flamingos pee on their legs to cool themselves off.
A rodent's teeth never stop growing.
You can't create a folder called 'con' in Microsoft Windows!
According to U.S. laws, a beer commercial can never show a person actually drinking beer.
You have no sense of smell when you're sleeping!

In California you may not set a mouse trap without a hunting license.

In M&M candies, the letters stand for Mars and Murrie, the developers of the candy in 1941.

Coconuts kill about 150 people each year. That's more than sharks.

Barbies full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts

A Chicago law forbids eating in a place that is on fire.

But you can buy mouse traps in the grocery store here... I never have but I would be surprised if they asked to see my hunting license...
