That sounds like a lot of fun. DH already promised that I could have me time when the movie comes out - like he has a say! :D But the weather would be a big issue for me. Why does it have to snow all of the time???

My original thought for all of this was to have us get a block of hotel rooms somewhere and spend the weekend watching the movie ('cause you know we're gonna have to see it 5 times) and discussing. I certainly wouldn't want anyone driving home alone for hours in the middle of the night.

Sounds like fun.

Well if anyone wants to come to Chicago to see the movie, I'm all for that! It most likely will be playing at the AMC River East movie theater (near Navy Pier) which has decent sized screens and you can buy tickets in advance so that would probably be the best place.

I haven't heard if they will be doing a midnight release for this movie or not. If so I probably won't be able to resist as I find they are the best viewing experience with die hard fans...although it does make it a bit challenging to go to work in the morning *grin*

I'm trying to convince the hubby to let me fly out to Utah to see the movie with my best friend, but if that doesn't work, which it probably won't, I'm there for a midnight release with you lady Narcissa!

I am definitely interested in going to the opening night movie. I'm about 1 - 1/2 away from chicago.

Well I don't own a car or drive at all so I'm only ever going to be able to meet up in the city. So if anyone wants to come into Chicago for that weekend and get a hotel room, you will have at least two people who will be here for sure!

There are plenty of hotels in the Navy Pier area and in December most hotels offer weekend packages for people who want to come into the city for the weekend to do Christmas shopping so there should be deals to be had. It's way too early to get those packages, however. Probably not until the fall.

This isn't to say, of course, that other people can't arrange their other Twilight movie weekend in the Midwest. Just if anyone wants to spend theirs in Chicago, I'll be here.

well I own a car and technically drive it but I don't go anywhere outside a 5 mile radius of my house - I am a HORRIBLE driver. But I can do Chicago bc I can take the train down.

Oh! I'd love to plan something like this. Sounds like a great long weekend! Chicago isn't too far at all and the Northern Indiana girls could take the train in.

This sounds great! I would *love* to get together for the movie and so I wouldn't feel so silly sqealing and swooning on my own. I'll be in the Chicagoland area with a car, so I'm flexible about where to meet.

One of the "issues" that my 46 y.o. friend (ok, she's cranky, and she admits it) is that she cannot wait to go see Twlilght but she does not want to sit in a cinema with talking screaming teenagers.

I told her that all the women our age would be whispering and giggling and tittering with our knees tightly squeezed together, so what's the difference?

ANYWAY yea let's try for a Schaumburg meetup of IL-WI-IN-MI-IA gals and anyone else we can cram into a hotel in December! There's great shopping at Woodfield mall and we can also go downtown Chicago AND for the outdoorsy types we can...er...start a snowball fight?

We would have to keep an eye on movie ticket sales as well as scout out a hotel for the purpose of a giant big girls' slumber party.

Sounds like we will have two different movie meetups going on.
One in downtown Chicago for those from the city and Indiana ect.
One in Schaumburg for the Northern suburbs and WI groups.

As it gets closer we can do separate posts.

I looked into renting a theatre (in various places) but I'm not sure that we would have enough people to do that. To have an entire theatre at midnight you have to buy each seat. Most of the theatres will do a discount group ticket for 50 or more people before the theatre opens, like 10am. But I know I don't want to wait until Saturday! I would really like to go to a midnight show and have the "slumber party" after.

I would like to do it in Chicago. I am in WI but won't drive down to Schaumburg, it isn't really any closer to me and I can take the train into Chicago. If there are people who don't want to go into the city, I talked to the mananger at Gurnee Cinemas (marcus theatres) her name is Stella and she is very nice. That would be my suggestion for people not wanting to come into Chicago. But I do think it would be an impressive gathering if we can all get together in one place.

I live in the north west suburbs, but I think it would be pretty fun to go downtown, so I'll be at that meet up. Lady Narcissa has some good ideas for theatres close to the mass transit, but still safe. The metra is so much more appealing than drive to Schaumburg for me personally. However, we can definitely do more than one meet up, like immortalbeloved noted. We've got time to think it over.

I already told my daughter that we're taking Dec 12th off so we could do the midnight showing if they have one (how could they not??)

I'd love to do a weekend get together near Chicago. I'm in the near northern suburbs so I can do downtown or Schaumburg (I used to live in Hoffman Estates and Streets of Woodfield is still my favorite theater). Of course in December it's going to be a lot easier for me to hop a train to downtown than drive to Schaumburg.

I've envisioned seeing it at least 3 or 4 times over the course of the weekend...that is if the anticipation doesn't give me a heart attach between now and then. :)
