"Twilight" author Stephanie Meyer on Good Things Utah Friday, May 16, 2008 (ABC 4 News) A series of novels written with teenagers in mind has exploded into a phenomenon for moms all over the world. The trio of books is called the Twilight series and Friday, New York Times Best Selling Author, Stephenie Meyer stopped by Good Things Utah to share a few secrets.
The ABC 4 studio exploded with excitement as author Stephanie Meyer walked on the set – a frenzy of enthusiasm for the woman who masterminded an eternal love triangle between a human girl, a vampire and a werewolf.
"We love being Twilighters!", the audience shouted.
Meyer said she still can't get used to her new found fame, "I can't believe it; it's been really bizarre and overwhelming. People screaming for you, it's not something you can get used to."
Meyer is a wife, a mother of three boys and a Brigham Young University graduate. "That's who I am, hugely who I am and so it's how I view the world. So you write how you see things," she explained.
The first book in her widely popular Twilight series is being made into a movie. Meyer admitted she was concerned about the casting, "One of my biggest worries was that they would cast people who had the name, popular tweeny stars that weren't really actors. And they've got amazing actors, I mean these people are really, really good."
The story of Bella and her dueling immortals has captured the imagination and interest of millions of fans.
"It's fantasy, because honestly our lives are so busy it's nice to take two hours out of the day to dream, pretend, wish and hope," expressed Twilight fan Katie Terry.
Lisa Hansen fell so in love with the books, she started twilightmoms.com. The website currently has 6,000 members. She recalled, "I thought that maybe I'd find about two other moms out there that were as obsessed as me and I thought that we'd chat and be friends and talk about it."
Friday nearly a hundred moms in the ABC 4 studio sat on the edge of their seats as Meyer talked about the fourth book in the series soon to be released.
"Is this truly the final book?" asked Good Things Utah host, Nicea DeGering. To which Meyer answered, "It is the final book from Bella's perspective."
Meyer also revealed she won't be writing any prequels, "A lot of people want to see Carlisle's story which would be cool, but the work involved and all that research. I really don't write that way, I just write from the seat of my pants."
Twilight fans will have to wait just a little longer; the fourth book in the series, "Breaking Dawn," will be released August 2, 2008. "Twilight: the movie" hits theaters December 12, 2008.
