My favorite series is The Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett. The first book is "The Game of Kings". There is a love story in there, but you would never know it from the first book, you have to stay with it. It is so much more than a love story. Dorothy Dunnett is a mystery writer but this is a historical fiction series. When my husband was in Vietnam, he and his friends would dig through the boxes of books that the soldiers would receive trying to find more books to this series. It is that good.

Hugs,
Skkyer

My favorite series prior to Twilight was by Terry Goodkind.....Sword of Truth series...has an underlying love story but twists and turns that make it amazing and just last week I found out that beginning tonight they are going to have a TV series based on it called Legend of the Seeker...I was amazed at my luck..they make Twilight into a movie and my other favorite books into a TV series...

I just finished the first book in The Dark Powers series called The Summoning. loved this book of course now I have to wait until next summer for the next book  . I could not put this book down, I got it in the YA section, after reading Twilight that's where I get most of my books now  .

Here's the synopsis:

My name is Chloe Saunders and my life will never be the same again.

All I wanted was to make friends, meet boys, and keep on being ordinary. I don't even know what that means anymore. It all started on the day that I saw my first ghost—and the ghost saw me.

Now there are ghosts everywhere and they won't leave me alone. To top it all off, I somehow got myself locked up in Lyle House, a "special home" for troubled teens. Yet the home isn't what it seems. Don't tell anyone, but I think there might be more to my housemates than meets the eye. The question is, whose side are they on? It's up to me to figure out the dangerous secrets behind Lyle House . . . before its skeletons come back to haunt me.

The Sign of Seven trilogy by Nora Roberts.

I'm just on book one, but the friend that passed them on is also who turned me on to Twilight, and she loved them.

If you like fun mysteries with a fiesty heroine and an obnoxious but dashing hero (?) try the Vicky Bliss series by Elizabeth Peters. I think they are great. Sarcastic, archeologically interesting, and romantic- in a confrontational sort of way.

Street of Five Moons
Silhouette in Scarlet
Trojan Gold
Night Train to Memphis
Laughter of Dead Kings.

Enjoy! Oh, a request, please. Would you mind giving your series a rating...just for us prudes. This series is a definate PG.

I'm just now jumping in here..........I would also highly recommend the Shopoholic series. I love Becky Bloomwood! She's a very interesting and funny character. I think I've pretty much read all of Kinsella's books (even under her other pen name, Madeline Wickham I believe)I also happened to really like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. It is YA, but then again so is Harry Potter and Twilight. Also the Ya Ya Sisterhood - it's actually a series of 3 books. All very very good. Another author I like is Billie Letts. She doesn't have a series, but her books are all a bit similar in style. She always writes about small towns (usually set in Oklahoma). Generally a broad cast of characters, each very unique so you can't really pinpoint one central character. The one that's probably most notable is Where the Heart Is, which was made into a movie. I actually read it before seeing the movie and am glad I did. The movie was ok, Ashley Judd was the best thing about it. But the book is excellent. The most recent book of Letts that I read is called Shoot the Moon. I couldn't put this one down. I think I read it in like 3 days. I'm a little surprised nobody's mentioned the Chronicles of Narnia series. They're a bit childlike in the style of writing, but the books are really good just the same.

Another of my favorite authors is Jane Green. She also doesn't have a series, but her books are really fantastic.
