I am just curious. I have always been a pretty avid romance reader - that's what my mom always read, so as a teenager, I started reading those types of books (especially Nora Roberts). I became a Harry Potter fan a few years ago (between books 3 and 4). And in the last couple years, I've branched out into more chick-lit type books (Sophie Kinsella, Jennifer Weiner, Meg Cabot, Jodi Picoult), in addition to still reading the regular romances.

So my question revolves around the fact that since reading the Twilight series (only a week ago!), I just haven't had any desire to read anything else, and I feel like maybe I'd like to read other vampire series, just different things. I'm not sure if it's Twilight though. It's very unusual for me to not just immediately move on to something else when I finish a book - I usually read 2-4 books per week. But due to my Twilight obsession, I can't move on! Did any particular books help any of you move on (not that any of us are truly moving on)?

I just finished the Three Sisters Island trilogy from Nora Roberts. Starts with Dance on Air. Gena Showalter too!

Right now I am reading The Gypsy Morph of Shannara, which is the latest book from Terry Brooks. I've read 200 pages in 2 days!

I am a huge fan of epic type fantasy novels, Robert Jordan (I hope his successor ends the series in a stong manner after his death, George R.R. Martin, Anne McCaffrey (Pern series), David Eddings, etc. I also enjoy books about the occult and Twilight was right up my alley :)

My favorite book series besides Twilight are the Hollows series By Kim Harrison. Best supernatural fiction ever. steamy, witty and entertaining.

I love to read, and I also struggled with figuring out what to read after Twilight. (What on Earth could compare???) I was suddenly hungry (or, rather, thirsty...hehe) for more reading! I decided to check out other young adult novels, with a romantic edge to them. Right now I am in the middle of reading Dreamland, by Sarah Dessen. I am really enjoying it so far. I am finding that I like reading about high school kids... :)

After a month of reading only Twilight, I finally read two other books this week - one I had laying around to read and one recommended on these boards. I just finished reading through the pages on this topic, and I'm excited that it's got me thinking about other books I love to read (though I'll keep re-reading Twilight, too!). I thought I would add some recommendations to the list:

Author Recommendations:

All Jodi Picoult - I've seen her recommended on here and agree with everyone's posts. I read My Sister's Keeper last year, and then felt a need to read all her other books. Having read them all, I have trouble deciding if My Sister's Keeper or Nineteen Minutes is my favorite. Her most recent, Change of Heart, was also good. I like the fact that, while her books aren't series, there are some common characters that pop up in different books.

Nora Roberts - I have read Nora Roberts for years, and she has many great trilogies. I love the Dream trilogy the most probably, but enjoyed the vampire trilogy like others on here have. Her books are always quick easy reads for me.

Sophie Kinsella - I love the Shopaholic series, and Can You Keep A Secret? and Undomestic Goddess. I liked Remember Me, but it wasn't quite as good. Her books make me laugh out loud.

Meg Cabot - I have not read any of her young adult books, but have enjoyed the Heather Wells mysteries and the Queen of Babble series. I may try the Mediator series after seeing the recommendations on here.

Harry Potter - of course!

Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Emily Giffin - Something Borrowed, Something Blue - these two go together. Someone else mentioned them on here, but didn't list the author. Her most recent, Love the One You're With, was also good, but I did not particularly enjoy Baby Proof.

Jennifer Weiner - I've enjoyed all of hers, though the sequel to Good In Bed that recently came out did not have the happy ending I expected!

Individual Book Recommendations:

Alice Sebold - I am one of those who enjoyed The Lovely Bones. It was just interesting and not what I expected.

Victoria Lustbader - Hidden - This was a random bargain bin find that one of my friends gave me. It was set in the early 20th century, a story about two different families through the years. Just a warning, if it offends anyone, there is a gay storyline.

Jon Krakauer - Into the Wild - I've never been much of a non-fiction reader, but I decided to read this book and watch the movie. As always, the book was better, and it really stuck with me for quite a while. I plan to read Into Thin Air also, but haven't gotten to it yet (stuck on Twilight!).

Stephen King - It - I was never much of a Stephen King reader, but I did read a few of his, and I read It three times and really enjoyed it.

Sandra Brown - Envy - I've always read a lot of romance novels, but this one is very different and one I always recommend to friends.

Stupid and Contagious - Caprice Crane - This was a very quick read, and hilarious! I laughed throughout. Not really deep, but fun, with lots of 90's music references.

I'll quit now! I love sharing books! I'm looking at the bookshelves of some of the other members of the Twilight Moms group on Goodreads now!

Prior to my discovery of Twilight, I read murder/mysteries. My favorite author
for that genre of books is Mary Higgins Clark.

I recommend:

-Daddy's Little Girl
-Remember Me
-Weep No More My Lady
-Two Little Girls in Blue
-Nighttime is My Time

All are very good reads.

I just finished Enchantment by Orson Scott Card. Absolutely loved it. I know many of you have read it. Finishing it sent me to this forum/thread. I've read all of the posts and have "friended" several of you on GoodReads.com

my url there is: http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1030353

I found Enchantment when I was wandering in the book store after re-vamping the Twilight series. I needed to get my head out of Forks for a while. I have to give myself time to absorb the books and make them part of me and not just obsessive thoughts. I was drawn to Card because I've seen his name on Stephenie's list of favorite authors and because of the quote that she begins Book Three (Bella) of Breaking Dawn. I just thought that the quote was so interesting and profound that I wanted to read more of this author.

Next I'm on to more O. S. Card: Treasure Box and Pastwatch: the Redemption of Christopher Columbus.

I'll let you know how I like them.

I just started reading Green Darkness by Anya Seton. It's an older book but looked very interesting. We'll see it won't take me but 5 chapters to dump it or keep it.

This is my all time favorite series besides the Twilight Saga! I read Outlander back in 1993 and was obsessed! I made all of my friends and family read it. I love Jamie and Claire! The rest of the books were amazing. I loved Voyager, that was my second favorite after Outlander.

Love that series!! In fact... I am thinking of reading it again since its been years since I have read it. She really did an excellent job on these. I would love to discuss as I re-read these.

Thanks for all of the great book suggestions! It's hard to concentrate on other books with your head full of Twilight! I'm in a book group, so I have to read at least one other book a month which helps a lot. Here are a few suggestions. Most of these are books we read for my book club that everyone liked although they aren't necessarily light and happy reads.

Atonement and Saturday by Ian McEwan (he is an amazing writer)
The Time Traveler's Wife (there's a thread dedicated to this boo because it is so awesome!)
Middlesex - very different, but a great book
The Road - Cormac McCarthy (super depressing, but an amazing book)
The Kite Runner

Of course, I also read fun stuff - I love Sophie Kinsella and Phillippa Gregory.

Keep posting suggestions! I'm always looking for something new!

Oh, you must read Gone with the Wind. It's so wonderful. It looks pretty daunting, but it's not a very difficult read. Very romantic. Before Edward Cullen, there was Rhett Butler (although he was a scoundrel).

lol..I agree with this. Before Edward Cullan....Rhett Butler was my leading man. I dreamed of him, I watched the movie...oh...a million times. I've been really surprised with how many years of Rhett Butler that SM was able to produce another character for me to fall for.

So Rhett...I'm so sorry....I'm now in love with a vampire :**:

I have just started The Vampire Diaries. Thanks to my lovely sister in law I am now hooked on another vamp series :**: but I would highly recommend it. :) Funny enough, the storyline kind of mirrors Twilight but not exactly if that makes sense? It is a YA series of books (OK..I promise I AM 33 years old..but it is a good book darn it! LOL) it has a dark brooding, hot vamp and a pretty, human girl as the main characters..forbidden love between vamps and humans..the whole bit. I recommend it for sure. :D

There are 3 outlanders threads on TM's. 2 to discuss the books (1-3 and 4-6) and another one for those who haven't read the books yet. I LOVE Jamie!

I thought Middlesex was okay, but the Eugenides title I really loved was The Virgin Suicides.

Question regarding Outlander series - I assume Outlander is the name of the first book. How many books in the series are there? And should they be read in order?
Thanks.

There are 6 books and yes, they should be read in order. You will get very confused if they are not.

Outlander
Dragonfly in Amber
Voyager
Drums of Autumn
The Fiery Cross
A Breath of Snow and Ashes

An Echo in the Bone is supposed to be released sometime next year.

You will LOVE Jamie! He rivals Edward...he's that good!
