Thanks for the "Enchantment" recommendation (a big Ender fan too). I'm a 1/4 the way through and am loving it!

I just finished "A Certain Slant of Light" - Laura Whitcomb
Another teen book, an easy read but such a beautiful story. There is already a thread for it, but want to get the word out.

OK - I just finished Enchantment a few days ago. I have to admit - I thought it was OK, but I kept waiting for it to suck me in and it never did. I thought it was a good story, but I guess I didn't love it. Sorry!!! I thought I might try some of his science fiction stuff, though.

However, I did just finish a book that I thought was going to be a trite love story and it was WONDERFUL!! A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux. I cried twice - which I haven't done while reading a book since Eclipse. It has a little bit of time travel in it (ala Outlander)...no bad language, though. And there are a few love scenes, but nothing too graphic. Just a suggestion for some of you looking for a good love story!

Somebody please read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It has a hot male, too, and it's a great love story. I'd love to be able to talk to someone about that series.

This is my all time favorite series besides the Twilight Saga! I read Outlander back in 1993 and was obsessed! I made all of my friends and family read it. I love Jamie and Claire! The rest of the books were amazing. I loved Voyager, that was my second favorite after Outlander.

Since reading The Twilight Series. I actually read some of the books that are going to be turn into movies.

The City of Ember Series by Jeanne Duprau. ( it's in the kids section at B&N)
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

Their all very interesting books and once I'm done reading, I tend to go back to Twilight to re-reading it's so much fun.

There is a whole thread about Outlander. You have to check it out. I highly recommend The Book Thief. Very well written.

Has anyone here read Wicked Lovely? It's the start of a 3 book trilogy, with the next book due out next month (I think). I just started reading it last night, and I like it....so far. :)

Seth.....Oh my.

Yes, I liked (loved) this book. I guess in terms of the trilogy though, the next book Ink Exchange doesn't center around Seth (sigh), Keenan and Aislinn. That makes me a little sad but I'll buy the book for even a mention of Seth.

This is from Melissa Marr's website.

Ink Exchange will be more of a 'companion novel' than a sequel. It will feature the courts and be set in Huntsdale, but Ash & co. are not the main focus. A Wicked Lovely sequel will be released in a third book, currently holding the working title of 'Moon Slivers'

Ink Exchange features Leslie, Ash's friend from Wicked Lovely, Irial, the king of the Dark Court, and Niall, Keenans advisor in Wicked Lovely.

There's more?? I thought it was just a stand-alone book.
*goes to check Amazon*

Yes, Enchantment is definitely by Orson Scott Card.

I heartily endorse the recommendation of Sunshine by Robin McKinley. It's a good "waiting for Breaking Dawn" filler. It's got a broody angsty vampire, some sigh-worthy romance, interesting vamp. mythology, and -both a good and a bad thing- it's a standalone, not a series started to get you hooked. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it made the office rounds just as Twilight is doing at work.

If you're looking for a classic, I loved A Tree Grows in Brooklyn- such vivid writing.

Non-vampy romance (and another to read before the film opens)- The Time Traveler's Wife. I'd love it even if the main character WASN'T a librarian. :)

Is it August 2nd yet???? I've informed my husband that I will not be doing any work around the house or answering the phone or speaking to anyone that day. He offered to take me out on the boat where I can read in peace and he will bring me snacks. Awwwww, so nice. I requested food that can be eaten one handed and without looking away from the book.

Time Traveler's Wife is one of my favorites! I checked amazon for similar books, and found Replay by Kem Grimwood (or something like that), and bought that. It too was great (it's about a man that dies and gets to relive his life over and over again, keeping all his memories from each time)
I saw where The Book Thief was also mentioned - another amazing story. The school I work at gave copies of that to us last year, and I had a hard time putting it down. My 8th grade son even liked it alot!

Wicked ? Reallly? did you like it?
I couldnt stand that book - well about 75% of it I couldnt stand -
The musical however - absolutly brilliant as they took the 25% of the book that was amazing and ran with it.
Wicked the book - painful to get thru
Wicked the musical - amazing!

I am SO glad that someone else feels the same way about this book! Very difficault to read! But I still want to see the musical, I've heard so many great things about it.

I agree, Wicked was a bit hard to get through. I actually liked Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (same author) much better!

I have some suggestions for anyone who's interested in reading about what Chicago was like around the time Edward would have lived there. :)
Devil in the White City by Eric Larson is about the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893 and a serial killer who lived here at the same time.
Sin in the Second City is, in brief, about brothels and madams in turn of the century Chicago.
Both very good books. I highly recommend them.

I read Devil in the White City immediately after the Twilight Series for that exact reason!
