I just read the Kissed by an Angel trilogy by Elizabeth Chandler. I really liked it. I recommend getting the collectors addition that has all three books because the first 2 end in the middle of a scene. It is really like one long book. It is a bit sad at times but a good young adult love story.

Here's my recommendation list for books to read:

1) A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott--the first chapter is kind of hard to get into, but once you're through that, you can't stop. You have to know if Tempest is going to find Rose or what else will happen. It reminds me of the movie, "Sleeping With the Enemy" a little. But it is set in 1800's Europe and about love, betrayal, stalking, love, obsession, and death.

2)My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult--very fast read. I read it in three days. Actually, anything by Jodi is very captivating.

3)Inkheart by Cornelia Funke--very fun fantasy read. You get a new world of characters in our world and our time. Captivates the reader (or at least me) within the first page).

4)Fablehaven by Brandon Mull-another fun fantasy read. Great book to read out loud to the kids. The adventures that Kendra and Seth have together, is amazing.

5)Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella--very laugh out loud funny book. I couldn't put it down, I just had to know what else would happen in the story.

I just re read Nanny Diaries.
Having been a nanny twice, it was a great - altho kinda sad - read.
But really entertaining.
And the movie comes out on DVD next week so I had been wanting to re read it again before seeing the movie.

anyone read the book and see the movie?

I read the books and thought they were hysterical and really sad at the same time. I felt so bad for the little boy! The movie was pretty good - I'm not sure if I loved Scarlett as the main character.

OK, after telling y'all to read "These is My Words", I got to thinking how good it was and so I re-read it over the weekend. I'm absolutely dying to talk to someone about it. Man-oh-Man! He really, really loves her!!! If you want a blueprint of amazing husbandly behavior you have to read this (or make your husbands read it). This time reading it through I could totally picture Kristen Stewart as Sarah and Henry as Jack. So I really want to see if anybody else has read this....Someone?...Anyone?...

We read this for book club last year. Excellent book!

I've been reading this thread for some time now and have gotten some really good recommendations for future and current reading!! Thanks!!

I was wondering, though, if I could ask for a specific type of book recommendation. I've recently begun to read and research about Pagan and Wiccan beliefs and traditions and was wondering if any of you had some pagan/ wiccan themed fiction books to recommend. I'm especially interested in those that are true to the craft (not just romanticized versions of it).

Feel free to PM me if that's easiest!

Thanks in advance!
Stacey

Glad I found this thread! I just got City of Bones at the library and will start it after I finish reading Eclipse (again). Then I'll have The Host to read.

Otherwise I've read recently (some right before Twilight and some after)
Phillip Pullman Dark series
Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series (new book coming out next month in the series)
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Steph's recommendation)
The Other Boelyn Girl (long so at least kept my interest)
Gift of Fear (a must read)
A Thousand Splendid Suns
Standard Hero Behavior (it was written by a friend of a friend, cute if you like Rick's YA series)
Nineteen Minutes
The Giver
a couple of Dean Koontz books but I can't remember the titles!

Wicked - it was hard to get into but I stuck with it just because. I was a wee bit disappointed that it wasn't like the musical, quite a few things were changed which I thought was weird

I'm going to look into the Outlander series (series right?) that someone recommended and I've never read any Anne Rice books so I'm going to pick those up too. Oh and "These is My Words"..I hadn't heard of it before now. I think I'll probably just end up reading Twilight series over and over and over again :)

I haven't read this one yet, but I want to eventually. I loved his book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. The movie "Smoke Signals" (also excellent) was based on these interconnected short stories.

Hmmm, I am not sure if this counts (it's probably not what you are looking for), but there is The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. There are other books that follow. It are fictional, but I read MZB did extensive research before writing it. I have a friend that is Wiccan, she may know of some.

I've read all the book that Emily Giffin has written so far. They are nothing like the Twilight series, they are totally chick lit. She wrote 'Something Borrowed', 'Something Blue' and 'Baby Proof' the first two are the same story told from two different friends perspectives (well kind of) and the last one is about a couple that got married and didn't want children then what happened when one changed their mind.

Another chick-lit that was entertaining was 'The Thing About Jane Spring' a once completely tomboy grown up who turns into a completely different person modeling herself on a 50's movie siren and using her grandma's old clothes.

The Nancy Martin 'Blackbird Sisters' murder mystery series, I ususally dislike stuff like it but it was really cute!

On a complete different stream of though I found this one randomly at my library it is called 'The Faith Club' it is 3 women, each from the different major Abraham based faith that get together to try to honestly discuss their faith and to better understand the others.

I read books for all ages, and I believe that everyone should read a children's book from time to time, because everyone needs a good slap of simple morals and childlike wonder once in a while. The Giving Tree gets a reaction out of everyone.

In older children's (but not YA) books- Stonewords- A Ghost Story by Pam Conrad is well written, suspenseful enough for adults, and the family is interesting.

-A Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier- thought provoking, with a cool take on the afterlife
-Unbowed by Wangari Maathai- an amazing woman!
-Pandora by Anne Rice- I'm not fanatic about her books, but there's lots of historical detail about the Roman empire
-The End of the Alphabet by C.S. Richardson- very short and very touching

I bought Wicked and have been trying to get into it, but I just can't. I saw the stage show in London and I loved it. It was one of the highlights of the trip.
Did anyone else have this problem? I keep seeing it pop up on a lot of fave lists and I feel like I have a glitch in my system because it just isn't doing it for me. Help me!!!!!

I read Wicked. More coz I started it and was curious how it would end, rather than it really kept me interested. Hard to explain, but I found it really more political than I thought a book about the witches in the Wizard of Oz would be....It made it really wordy and long-winded, I guess.
It really wasn't anything I'd expected it to be. But since the basic story was about the characters, I did finish it.
It wasn't my favorite book of all time, but it wasn't completely awful.

There is one YA series that I absolutely loved. The Cirque Du Freak series by Darren Shan. I think the movie of the first book is actually coming out later this year as well.

For non-fiction people, last summer I read a few books that I really loved even though I am usually strictly a fiction girl.

Guns, Germs, and Steel - Jared Diamond is about the developement of civilizations.

Bill Bryson's 'A Short History of Nearly Everything', 'Down Under' and 'I'm a Stranger Here Myself' (about coming back to live in America after 20 years of living in England)

I know Janet Evanovich Stephine Plum series always crack me up if you're looking for a laugh you can't go wrong with those. Other than that I can't remember what I was reading before I got the books that changed EVERYTHING.
