B4 (Into the Flame) is out 8/5. if you can wait til Aug I would recommend it. Book 3 is wonderful but drops you right into B4 and you are left wanting and wanting and needing and waiting for book 4.
Aug is a busy month for books lol

Hi there. First time posting here. I browsed the forum and didn't see anything about these authors or books...

This is a six book series about a girl, Magiere, who cons rural villagers into thinking they have a vampire problem and she is the one to get rid of it for them, often at the expense of all the money the village can scrounge up.

Well, it ends up Magiere is truly a Dhampir, or half-vampire. The first book is called Dhampir and it's very decent. I have read the first four of the six books and plan on finishing up the series before the end of the year.

I purchased copies for all of my friends for Christmas and I gave the first one to my closest friend the other day. I did not tell her it was about vampires, I just told her it was a terrific romance (it IS on the back cover though, right?!). She e-mailed me about 100 pages in (in all caps), "ARE THESE PEOPLE VAMPIRES?!?!?!?!?!" and proceeded to tell me that she could kill me for getting her into this "crap." She is still reading because she likes it, but apparently it is not something she would have chosen herself. She called me this morning and said, "are they ever going to get physical?!" LOL!

That is exactly what I'm doing when I tell people about the books. I wish I had gone into them with a clean slate. I knew way too much! I knew that Jacob was going to be a werewolf from the time he told Bella the scary story because my sister told me the books were about vamps and werewolves. A lot of people won't give them a chance if they know that. So now I just say its an awesome romance with a twist  . Too many people allready know about the "Vampire" books though and don't know what they are missing!

LOL... that's soooooo true! Same thing happened to me when I tried to tell my sister about them. She was all interested and then I told her "well... he is a vampire..." and she was all like.... "ohh..." then she kinda rolled her eyes like she was saying.... "yeah just like Kris.... one of those books again."

It's truly frustrating!

I'm also a HUGE Buffy fan, and it's the hardest thing to tell people about the TV series simply because of the name! People don't want to see beyond that. Also, so many people that I've met around my neck of the woods don't understand sattire, completely annoying!

I just finished reading "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. It was so good, but very sad. However I am currently re-reading Twilight, I think this makes the 7th time

YES! I was going to suggest this one! I really adore that book!

OK, so here is a little list of some of my favs:

Good Grief and Happiness Sold Seperately both by Lolly Winston

Of the two, I think that Good Grief is my favorite, but BOTH were SO great! Good Grief made me laugh out loud, and it also made me cry. It's not a fantasy book, but it's a MUST read.

Dress your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris

ANYTHING by David is awesome, but this one really hit the mark for me! He is so witty and sarcastic, this book made me crack up! It reminded me so much of one of my best friends.

Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs
Again, I've read more than one of his books, and i've loved them all. This first one is a must read foundation for his work though.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Seybold - It's exceptional!

Love Walked In by Marisa de Los Santos - She is such a strong descriptive writer, absolutely beautiful. The sequel to this book is called You Belong To Me. I haven't read that yet, but it's on my list.

Tetheredby Amy MacKinnon- I haven't read it yet, but it looks DARN good! :)

The Lake of Dead Languages by Carol Goodman- I couldn't put this book down! It has some racy scenes, and it's definitely not for Young Adults. The story is SO good though, it's a must.

Forbidden Fruit by Erica spindler- Again it's definitely an adult book. I fell in love with the characters though. Very strong love story mingled with murder, crime, mystery and the such. It's a little dark, but really really good.

When the Storm Breaks by Heather Lowell- This is an awesome romance/suspense. Definitely has strong sexual content. It's very tastefully done though, and let me tell you.... it's HOT. Oh my goodness! Sooo passionate... I was seriously...uhhh...tense....after this....lol! The story is so good though, so don't think it's all only about ..ya know.....

Realm of Shadowsby Shannon Drake (a.k.a Heather Lowell)- This is another romance/suspense mystery, but guess what.... it's about vamps!!! YAY! It's not SM by any means, but it was worth the read, oh yeah...

(on a side note- Oh My! I looked this one up and it may be a series book! i didn't know that until just now!)

I have many more titles swishing around in my head, but i'll wrap this up...

This is a series. It's: Untamed, Forbidden and Enchanted by Elizabeth Lowell

It is a romance novel series, but it's supernatural in nature, and the stories are awesome. It does have sexual content, but again it's tasteful....and.....really good...... :)

Ok, enough rambling for now......

Happy Reading!!

I love Tasha Alexander's series: And Only to Deceive, A Poisoned Season and A Fatal Waltz. They're Victorian-set mysteries.

I just finished The Book Thief today and had to come and recommend it to everyone. The writing is so beautiful and original that I found myself wanting to stop and underline sentences on each page as I read. The book is just amazing and will be one I give as a gift to friends this Christmas.

From School Library Journal
Zusak not only creates a mesmerizing and original story but also writes with poetic syntax, causing readers to deliberate over phrases and lines, even as the action impels them forward. Death is not a sentimental storyteller, but he does attend to an array of satisfying details, giving Liesels story all the nuances of chance, folly, and fulfilled expectation that it deserves. An extraordinary narrative.–Francisca Goldsmith, Berkeley Public Library, CA

Has anyone tried the series written by Kim Harrison? the series is called The Hollows, and is about vampires, witches, werewolves, elves and pixies. I know sounds strange, but they are set in modern day Chicago, and are a blast to read. Steamy intimacy scenes (well they get better as the series goes on), and suspense. Oh and I forgot to mention that there are also demons. My second fav. series.....after which of course is..... :-)

I just cannot seem to get into many other books since Twilight. I just finished The Hunger Games and loved it almost as much as Twilight. they had a very similiar feel to me. Anyone have any recommendations for books that have the same feel to them as these books did?

Why do you think we're all hangin' out in this forum? :rolf:

I've got a stack of books gathering dust on my nightstand. I've never been a fan of this genre...vampire stories, I mean. I'll indulge in a romance book now and then for guilty pleasure...usually historical, but none of them EVER hooked me the way this series has hooked me.

Hence the need for "revamping"...the affectionate term herein for rereading this series. I'm on my first revamp, and yes, the book is just as good the second time! Some folks have revampd into the double digits!

I'm an avid romance reader. I was just curious how many others are out there and who some of their favorite authors and books are.

I like...
Paranormal:
Kenyon
Ward
Lara Adrian

Contemporary:
Erin McCarthy
Lori Foster
Lucy Monroe
Toni Blake

Just to name a few.

Twinklepixy - thanks for that suggestion. I'll have to look for it. I'm from Chicago so I'm partial to stories that take place here. Not very many of them out there, at least not in the genre I read anyway. ;) So thanks again for that suggestion!

If I might suggest a couple: The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd; Shoot the Moon by Billie Letts; Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg and also Standing In the Rainbow by Fannie Flagg and pretty much anything by Jane Green. One last recommendation: Suzanne's Diary For Nicolas by James Patterson..........read with a box of tissues. :wah: ;)

I'd like to suggest some fantasy authors. Lois Bujold has some military type science fiction, but I would recommend to read her new series first called The Sharing Knife- Part 1 is Beguilement, Part Two Legacy, Part Three Passage, and Part 4 to be published soon Horizon. Another love story, but the guy is much older than the girl, but not a vampire, though he does have some special powers....
And Tamora Pierce's Alanna series is about a very strong female character. Her other series, about a female protector is Terrier. The second volume is to be published soon, Bloodhound. She does have other series, but start with either of those two. I like Lois because she gives her characters a sense of humor. Tamora writes good adventure stories. Enjoy!!

I read Enders Game, by Orson Scott Card last month.
It was on Stephenie's list....actually her fav. was the 2nd book in the series, but I had to read the first one first. It was ok. A little too sci-fi for me.
It's about boys who are genusis' who go to this battle school...and this one kid, Ender, his "journey". Again, it was an OK read. I thought boys would really like this book. Maybe when my son is older he will want to read it.

I bought the 2nd one, Speaker for the Dead, because I thought I wouldn't want to put the 1st down...haha...so now I just need to make myself read that one.

I really need to lower my expectations. I want another book series that I can fall in love with. I'm on day 2 without reading a Twilight book. Doesn't mean I haven't gone to her site, this site, and listened to the playlist a million times.

Try Ender's shadow by the same author. It's the Ender's Game story but from a different character's viewpoint. If you're familiar with the books, it's from Bean's viewpoint. I almost like this one more.
