I thought I'd post a copy of this here as well...since I was singing the DH praises:
ACK! My post went into the black hole *note to self, start working in word, copy and paste!*
Alright, I had this super long post where I explained my views on the whole BDB vs. DH thing. I just hope I remember most of the points that I wanted to make...
First of all, when I raised the question of DH vs. BDB, I meant as in battle, not the literary value of each series. But I have to answer my own question with " who knows? They each have unique talents and superhuman strengths....". I still think my DH boys have a slight advantage, especially those with god and half-god powers.
As to the series themselves- again the answer is complicated. I find merit and things I particularly like in both. I love the fierce loyalty between the Brothers and the dual natures of the Brothers (fierce fighters become gentle devotees to their mates). What I've always had a bit of an issue with in the BDB series, is the writer's style. This is all personal preference of course but the whole gangsta thang annoys me a little after awhile and JR's style of writing isn't my favorite, truth be told.
On that same note, I've never had to reread a Dark Hunter passage (well for meaning at least...lord knows I've reread quite a bit but for pure pleasure

) Also, I love the mythology tie-in. Furthermore, sarcasm is yet another language that I speak and Sherrilyn has some smarmy-mouthed characters! In my opinion (for what it's worth) Sherrilyn has the advantage over JR in witty dialogue.
I fall hard for characters I love and both have given me people that I still adore. Sherrilyn has a lot more books so again she has a slight advantage. While her characters may be less bulked up, they seem to be more complex as well. I kind of like that in her world, some of the bad guys have redeeming qualities and the good guys aren't necessarily without fault.
Well, before this fades into another black hole, I guess I should wrap up! I guess I'll be the first to say that, while I'm eagerly anticipating the next BDB book, if I have to choose which series I prefer over the others, I'm going to choose the Dark Hunter.
