I used chiffon material. I bought a yard and that has been more than plenty so far.
The glue is Mod Podge Matte Mat
and the paint is Speedball Screen printing ink. I used the Opaque. It has a little bit of a sheen to it.

I bought all of it from Hobby Lobby.

Thanks! I was looking a all the Mod Podge glues today and couldn't figure out which ones to get. When I was at Hobby Lobby today I couldn't find any Speedball Screen printing ink. I looked everywhere (I hate asking for directions ha!) and couldn't find any, so I bought some regular fabric paint instead. I bought some tulle, but I may buy chiffon instead. Did it work out ok? I'm just worried the tulle will make it look... pixaliated... you know?

I had to ask where the Speedball was! They don't make it easy to find.

I've read somewhere that someone else thought the tulle made it look a little pixel-ly. I've not had any problems with the chiffon.

I don't know what the difference is with using the screen printing ink as opposed to the fabric paint. Let me know how that turns out!

I bought a pack of 6 4oz containers for, I think, $25. The colors are great (raspberry, silver, black, citrine [a yellowy color], blue & white)
I also got an 8oz jar of plain black for $8.

OH! and a tip my friend gave me was to use the sponge brushes when you do your painting.

Did you brush the Mod Podge on with the sponge brushes or bristle brushes?

I used cheap paint brushes for the glue (I bought a multipack at Hobby Lobby). It takes forever to make the screens but the are reusable! I put three coats of the glue bc I was afraid it wasnt enough and the paint would be all over the place.

So do you wash the screens when you're done to get the ink coloring out? Or does it all come out on the shirt?
Sorry for all the questions. :D

No problem! I would have asked a ton of questions too before I started (my hubby wears my first, pitiful attempt around the house- how sweet) I had too much ink in some spots and not enough in others. It helps to stipple then kind of drag the sponge brush across it.

Yes, you need to wash the screens out as soon as you are done because it wont come out once it dries. The glue wont come out at all so you don't have to worry about it washing out. I leave mine in the hoops but you can take them out and put them back in later.

I just finished with the first layer of glue on my screen. Man, that was a LOT of work!!! I'm not sure if this is worth it lol. It has an apple with a hunk bitten out of it with the words 'Bite me" under it in twilight font. The letters were hard!!! I'll keep you updated on how it goes.

It'll be at least tomorrow before it's done. I let the screen dry, and I see some spots I missed so I'm going to go over it with another good coat. Plus I got called back into work tonight because people are idiots and don't show up for shifts.

Another question: Did you wait for the paint to dry before you lifted the screen off? That lady's instructions were kind of confusing at that point.

I just did another shirt and when I pulled my screen off I saw that I missed some spots (grrrr!) So I quickly rinsed my screen off and dried it at a distance with the hair dryer. Then I carefully put it back on and tried again. I think next time I'll just take a little paint brush and fill in.

I did iron mine after the ink dried. I cut the legs out of some old stretchy exercise pants and laid it on top of the shirt. I think ironing helps set it.

That stinks about having to go back into work!
