hey, what a wonderful thread, melissa. we should be proud of our kids' achievements. :D

my daughter is an incoming 5th grader. she goes to a private catholic girls' school here in manila. included in their school's curriculum is the study of the mandarin language. she has been learning to speak the chinese language since pre-school. she's quite exceptional with the language, despite the fact that we don't have chinese blood or lineage whatsoever in both mine and my husband's family. she's a straight A student, she's consistently in the top 5 of her classes, and she gets chinese language proficiency awards every year. she's quite the achiever she sometimes frightens me with her goals.

she is also into modern jazz dance, and she will be having a dance recital this saturday. she is always the youngest in her jazz classes, and the dance teachers don't hesitate to put her with the more advanced students inspite of her age. looking forward to the saturday gig.

sorry for my rambling. i just feel that my daughter is such a beautiful, unexpected blessing. :D

Spent all day Thursday at school. My 5th grader graduated elementary school. He got awards for honor roll all year, and participation in APEX (the intellectually gifted program). My 3rd grader was a boy scout in the memorial day play, and he also got an award for honor roll all year. My 5th grader (6th now, officially) is a very avid reaser. He's read the Inkspell and Inkheart books, and he's read Eragon, and is now reading Eldest. He loves summer cause he reads like crazy. Even if he's by the pool, he usually has a book in hand. My youngest is more the outdoorsy type, playing & runnung all the time. Thye are both great kids.

Congrats. We have the IB program here, too, so I know how intense it is.

  Warning: Proud Mama alert!

My daughter received 6 academic excellence awards this year and 2 awards for displaying character in the classroom. She was also recommended for Honors Science this coming school year. She'll be in 7th grade.

My oldest son will be in 3rd grade in the fall and was accepted into the Gifted & Talented program. :D

My youngest was recommended for pre-kindergarten in the fall. He's too young to start regular kindergarten but his pre-school teachers felt he was too advanced for a regular pre-school class.

  I'm so proud of them as I know you are all so very proud of your own children's achievements!!

Maybe there's a direct correlation between TMs and intelligent children!! :D

Congratulations, Queenie!

The correlation? We show our kids that reading is important, fun, and a part of our daily lives. It's bound to rub off.
