Oh most definately for me, it has to be in Italy. Starting from the point from where Edward drops Bella into the grate for Alice to catch her and they walk in the cold and dark to meet with Aro in the chamber. On my very first time through, I was certain something bad was going to happen.....

Then the horror that happens with the tourists coming in and the little lady that can't speak English and is rubbing her rosary beads....that is just terrifying to me. The fact that Bella goes into shock and Alice says to Edward, 'I think she is having hysterics, perhaps you should slap her' tells me just how awful an experience that time must have been.

AHHH!!!!

I didn't think any of it was scary from a "horror" standpoint, but I did get really nervous that Edward would step out into the sunshine in Italy. I think that's the only part that made my heart race (other than the good snogging scenes, that is).

I thought the part where the people were being lured in to Volturi's lair as if they were on a tour, when that poor older woman had an instinct something very evil was happening, was very eerie and disturbing. Very easy to envision what happened next once they were all in that room!

I agree. I don't know if scary is the right word, but it was certainly creepy!

The 'scariest' part of the series for me was in Eclipse when Bella and Jacob kissed. I was soo worried about how and what she was feeling and the thought that she might not return to Edward... URGH!!!! I was literally sweating and reading like a mad woman! hahahah It still makes me nervous!

I thought the same the first time I read the book, but the next time I just wondered -- so what if?????? But that would have changed the whole story, and we don't need that!!!

"Where it would stay - CONCEIVABLY for the rest of eternity." Never has one little word caused me so much anxiety!

OME!!!! I have talked and talked about how one little word could mess with my head so much, I even try to think of ways it could mean something good....LOL really every time someone I know gets finished with Eclipise, I ask did you notice THAT word????
I agree it is super scary!!!!
Ok....I even know what the word means and I must have read that same sentence 100 times trying to find even a crumb of something positive in it. I actually looked conceivably up in the dictionary because I thought maybe it possessed some sort of dual meaning that I wasn't aware of. All that did was fill me with more angst!

I never paid much attention to that after I read Eclipse.....GREAT!!! Now I have something else to worry me that they won't stay together! Image Image

 The Ballet Studio when James is just toying with her, and then hunches, and she comes to her senses and tries to make a dash for it.

I know this isn't the kind of "scared" that you are talking about but...in NM when Edward left I was really afraid that Stephenie would not have him come back. That was my biggest fear!! Other than that here wasn't anything in any of the books that scared me.

I agree with you Twilighter - this was the only time I was scared whilst reading the books for the first time. I always knew that Edward would protect Bella every other time! Although, I admit on my first read-through, until the werewolves showed up to take on Laurent in NM, I was expecting Edward to pop out from somewhere and save Bella himself...thank goodness for mythical creatures!

Okay there are so many parts that got me scared... and I don't get scared that easily.

When they were playing ball in the field and suddenly Alice realized that they were going to have visitors very soon. So they put Bella behind Edward and tried to keep her inconspicuous (sp???). Then all of the sudden James smelled her!!!!

Of course the meadow when Bella ran into Laurent. Wow... that was scary and when the huge wolves showed up in a pack. Can you imagine... she had no idea they were there to protect her. I would have passed out!

I also liked when Bella was opening her birthday gift and got cut by the wrapping paper and suddenly Jasper was coming towards her!

When Bella jumped off the cliff was intense, but it didn't scare me until she realized that fire she saw on shore was actually Victorias wild red hair! That sent chills down my spine knowing that Victoria was so close.

The Italy scene with the innocent victims made me so sad.

The fight scene between Edward and Victoria didn't scare me at all. In fact I actually hated that one of the vampires hand got cut off and was still moving. This was a little corny too me.

(I've only read the series once and I'm just beginning my 2nd go at it. so if I got some names or events wrong, please refresh my memory.)

Nothing new from me:

1- The whole James in Phoenix thing was pretty scary (start to finish).

and

2- Volterra: from Edward almost exposing himself and Bella not being fast enough to the long, dark tunnel walk to Jane making Edward writhe in agony to the group of "tourists."

Port Angeles was pretty scary too.

Ooh, yes. That was pretty tense. When I got to these tense parts of the books the first time I read them super fast and didn't catch everything, but I just needed to know what was going to happen - so when I read it the 2nd time I really let it sink in what was actually going on. It was still tense the 2nd time around.

I agree with all the above posts, and one other thing that I think will be suspenseful (and I hope they put it in the movie), is Bella trying to get away from Jasper in the airport, knowing how easy it is for him to pick up her scent.
