TM Clara's Interview with TwilightMOMS Creator lisa:
What inspired you to start this site?
Quote:
Wayyyyy back after I’d first read the series, I was immediately obsessed but the only other obsessed people I could talk to about it were the teen age girls in my neighborhood. I felt awkward and crazy that I couldn’t get these characters out of my head. I searched the internet for hours, explored fan sites, myspace groups, stephenie’s website and myspace page. I just couldn’t get enough!
I felt like the only one in the whole world out there my age who was completely obsessed with these books and that there was something severely wrong with me.
Finally, on the myspace group Henry Cavill IS Edward, I got up the courage to post a new topic. I was specific in the title and said I was searching for any 30 something married women, with or without children, who are as obsessed as me. I got a couple responses and then Britten responded, then Tiffany, and a few other women.
I was so relieved to know there were a “couple” of other women out there. I wanted to talk more with them and invite any others that wanted to just gab about twilight. I decided that I’d create a myspace group and called it TwilightMOMS. The name TwilightMOMS had been popping into my head all day for a few days to the point that I just knew that was meant to be the name of this little group of ours.
I made a last post on the HC is E group and invited the women to join. Tiffany joined first (as I recall), then Britten, and then came Kendra and Georgia. We all bonded instantly! We shared such funny theories and questions we were always afraid to ask anyone regarding the vampire anatomy and physiology. wink wink We found out we were ALL on the same wavelength with our thoughts and questions and stages of life. All I looked forward to each day was getting home from work so I could catch up on what they had been talking about and all the funnies I missed. I spent all my time on the computer with them! It was soooo fun! I’ve met Tiffany and Georgia, and am determined to meet Kendra and Britten!
As the weeks went on in the myspace group we grew and grew. Like the name “TwilightMOMS kept intruding in my thoughts over and over again, so had the thought of creating a website… something I had absolutely no clue as to how to even go about. I asked questions to my computer savvy co workers and got some tips on where to start. I had my gubby even buy me HTML For Dummies and Web Design For Dummies.
I googled and googled and googled some more. I stayed up all night every Friday and Saturday night getting the pages to look just right and then launched it. The forum that my host site offered was terrible so I googled and googled and googled some more and found freeforums.org. I saw the word free and was sold! It turned out to be a great choice. They have been awesome! And so I linked over to them for the forums and here we are!
What was your original vision for this site? Quote:
To prove to myself that I wasn't going through some midlife crisis!!!

My original desire for TwilightMOMS myspace was to have a place where I could just obsess and talk with other women as insane as me. I thought we’d be maybe 10 women AT MOST!
For TwilightMOMS.com I’d realized that there were hundreds if not thousands of us who had been just dying to come out of hiding. I wanted this site to be a positive, stress relieving, uplifting fan site full of best friends and fun.
Did you anticipate the growth and popularity of this site? Quote:
I absolutely did NOT anticipate growth like this. But, my experience as an LDS missionary and experience with working in businesses really prepared me to always embrace change, roll with it, and to put together a solid organizational structure to maintain the integrity of the site and my vision for it.
It was VERY difficult to relinquish the responsibilities to others, but I knew I couldn’t do it all. It felt like I was giving up one of my children bit by bit. The lives of mothers are so crazy and nothing is controllable when you have children. You can control some aspects of your life to an extent but the more people you share your life with the less control you have. TwilightMOMS was the one and only thing in my life that I had complete control and say over and that made me feel like at least one aspect of my life was going the way I wanted it to. Yet I quickly became very aware that it wasn’t “all about me” and if you love something… “set it free”. (within reason, that is) But, that is why everyone’s input and different opinions are so important to me. I want to know what the women need in general.
It is so funloving and friendly here. And everyone wants to do something to help. Everyone is so giving. TwilightMOMS is a “feel good” place. Women, especially moms, need a break and a place where they can escape to just be uplifted and refueled for all the “stuff” they have to face on a day to day basis.
What has happened here that has surpassed your expectations? Quote:
-Catching the attention of Stephenie Meyer herself
-Landing interviews with the cast members.
-Being called personally by Peter “Hotness” Facinelli.
-And being the go-to place for all Twilight fans to find exciting breaking Twilight movie news and pics.
-Being the place where lifetime friendships have been created
-Seeing TwilightMOMS get together all over the world. It's come to the point that if you're a TwilightMOM, you know you can go just about anywhere in the world and you will automatically have a friend there. That just warms my heart!
What would you like to have happen on this site that hasn’t happened yet? Quote:
I’d like to see us supporting a charity or cause.
How much time do you spend each week on TM related stuff? Quote:
In all honesty, I probably spend at least 30 hours a week on TM stuff.

I check email and PMs before work, a couple times during the day, (depending on if the boss is around) take some calls while working, then open up my laptop when I get home from work and do TM and squeeze in a couple household duties and time with fam all at the same time until it’s time to go to bed. It’s just constant. And there’s always something “administrative” that I need to do. (When I’ve had enough of administrating and just want some down time, you’ll likely find me in the Hotties forum

)
What is your vision for the site now, has it changed from the original vision?Quote:
My original vision for the site hasn’t changed much. I still want to provide a positive, uplifting, escape to a place full of friends and fun. However, I can see the potential of this site is greater than I ever anticipated, with so many amazing women, I’ve been able to feel the strength in our numbers and the example that we are.
I’d like for others to get the message that we may be working women, and/or just moms, but that we like to have fun too. That we have some mad skills! When we put our heads together, there ain’t nothin’ we can’t do! We have interests and talents and enthusiasm. We’ve found our fountain of youth and everyone should have that in their lives to keep from disappearing into the mundane routines we get into as life settles down.
I want girls to look to us and say to themselves, “I want to be like that when I’m a mom, or aunt, or lawyer, or receptionist. I don’t want to ever let go of who I am and what I love.” Also, I’d like girls to stop being so mean to each other and realize that this is how it can be! A worldwide network of women is perhaps the strongest force upon the face of the earth. When we are older life teaches us that we women are here for each other in ways that only we can understand and appreciate. We all need each other.
