I always make Corned Beef and Cabbage for St. Paddy's Day. It was my Grandma's favorite.

Easter is the usual. Color eggs, leave baskets out from the Easter bunny and so on. My family used to have lamb ever year but when I was in my early 20's, I put my foot down and refused to eat it so now we have Ham and Steamboat potatoes.

I'm definitely more of a ham over lamb girl myself!

Something else we do for Easter, is to make the Italian easter breakfast cake. What it is, and this has been made in my family for countless generations, is a cinnamon and sugar breakfast bread cake with the colored Easter eggs baked into it. The bread cake itself, is almost like a sticky bun recipe with the colored eggs placed upright in it. It is yeast based so it rises up and is nice and light. We have it for Easter breakfast every year!

What are the colored eggs? hard- boiled eggs? Sorry, I'm confused. This is probably really obvious and my mind is just not working good. :)

Yes, we hard-boil them first, then color them and then they are baked into the Easter bread cake. I remember as a little girl, getting up early on Easter morning to help my mom knead the dough and let it rise. Memories are so precious!

Wow, so cool. I will have to try that this year. Are the eggs inside still edible after being boiled then baked??? :)

Yes they are definitely edible. My kids don't usually eat them only because we eat the bread cake right out of the oven and the eggs are still hot. There is something about a hot hard boiled egg that is just not as appealing. They are really more for decorative purposes, especially if you are having company and serving it as part of a brunch. It looks really pretty on the table.

Oh see that's why I like the idea, because it looks pretty! HA. It's all about the presentation. :)

I really think I might try it. Thanks again for posting the idea :)

Something my family always has done is make Bird Nest rRce Krispies. You make the traditional Rice Krispie treat recipe and shape it into bird nests instead of putting it into a pan. Just make sure that you spray your hands with Pam or keep them wet or you'll be a mess. onve they've cooled and hardened you fill the nest with Jelly Beans or Robin Eggs and put a Peep on top. I guess you could do this anytime during the Spring. We just do ours the Saturday before Easter.
Also our kids do an Easter Egg Hunt in the morning when they wake up to lead them to their Easter Baskets full of goodies. We also do this the Saturday before so that we can reserve Easter Sunday for the true meaning of Easter.

How cute! I did something similar with my son's 3rd grade class 2 years ago, only we used the long, hard skinny chinese noodles to make the nests. We followed the rice krispies recipe for the marshmallow mix and definitely used alot of pam on our hands as well, then molded the noodles into birds nests. After they cooled we drizzled melted chocolate all over for effect. Filled them with a little bit of easter grass, chocolate mini eggs and also put a yellow peep on top. The kids loved them.

I am insanely festive. We have a tradition for everything and we celebrate everything (ie Hot Dog day, wear red day, buffy the vampire slayer day, etc along with big holidays)
For Easter we are planning on coloring easter eggs like normal, then we usually go and see the Easter bunny somewhere. Last year we went to a farm place where Granny McGregor tells the story of the Easter Bunny while the kids have chocolate chip cookies and apple cider and then they sit on the bunny's lap for pictures and a prize. then they do a wagon ride, pony rides and a bunch of games. I am planning on this again this year if it's warm enough outside. Then on Easter we have hot cross buns and there is a trail of jelly beans to each persons basket. our daughter will follow the beans to her basket where she will find candy, a chocolate covered rice krispie treat bunny, a new stuffed bunny, a book, a church book, a new little picture of Jesus, and one other toy - this year a Mrs. Potato Head. She will also get a new Easter outfit. As a kid we also celebrated everything which is why I love it so much I guess but we never got toys just candy for Easter so I like adding those few fun things. My husband and I also get a basket with candy and one new item- for me a book for him new headphones. Then we go to church. And for dinner we usually have a nicer sit down dinner and talk about the real reason for the holiday and usually end the night watching a short video about Jesus and reading about his resurrection in the scriptures.
I doubt we'll add anything Twilight related but if anyone thinks of something then maybe I will. BUT in a few weeks it is "Make up your own holiday day" and last year it was World of Warcraft day for the hubby so this year it my turn to pick and I think we will have a Twilight day!
