Alice's ability and Bella in Edwards life

I think that Alice sees the results of decisions, not necessarily the person making them. Alice was focused on James, and when she saw Bella in the mirror room she assumed that it was due to a decision on James' part. I don't think that she was focusing on Bella, so didn't see her running through the airport, another result of her decision; or if she did see it maybe she chalked it up to James chasing her.

Well since I kept reading I actually read the answer for myself. It seems that after Bella wrote the letter to Edward in Chapter 21, Chapter 22 starts out with her coming upon Alice in the midst of one of her "episodes". It seems like Alice sees what happens in the ballet studio with James but doesn't realize that it was Bella's decision to meet James that caused the future to change; she must have just assumed it was a decision made by James.

I think you're right... remember how in NM Bella is talking to Alice about how she saw Edward so clearly, but could only see bits of Bellas future, and Alice says that she sees her kind more easily, and she can see Edward even more because how close they are...but she is slowly becoming more attuned to Bella from being around her? Plus, in the first chapter of MS, Alice is totally concentrating on Jasper because she is so concerned about him, it is taking a lot of her attention away from Edward. Plus, Bella didn't make the decision to really come into his life, until he made his mind up that he would let her. I don't know, it's fun to guess!! ~ I hope this makes sense!!

SHOOT!! I just read a thread that was discussing this exact thing this past week but for the life of my can't remember where it is. I'll look. Alice sees the outcome at the ballet studio but she NEVER thinks that it is because of a decision that Bella makes so she is not looking for that...plus Bella knew how to keep her mind safe from Alice and had not completely decided how she was going to try to get away from Jasper and Alice until they got the the airport and she kind of made it up as she went along. Does this make sense? I will try to find the other post cause it just gives a better explanation of it.

Good question. Maybe Alice isn't yet that attune with Bella to see this. *shrugs* I don't know.

Alice's abilities are based on decisions. She wouldn't have seen Jasper attack Bella until he decided to, which was a split second decison based on desire for blood. She couldn't have seen the whole papercut scenario because that was an accident.

So...I was revamping and I started to think about Alice's gift! This might be a dumb question but can Alice see her own future??? I can't remember any part that specifically says this. Can anybody shed some light???

I thought the same thing and maybe I am reading into this entirely too much but the way her powers work wouldn't Jasper have to decide on going to the diner and that is how she found him, just because she saw him go there.

All Jasper say's is, "She was there - expecting me, naturally."

Then Alice says, "I was just relieved. I thought you were never going to show up."

Then she said she had seen Carlise family but it didn't say that she saw her there just that she saw them and knew that you wanted to be there. I don't know but it has me thinking that she can't see her own future???

That would make sense, as she saw Jasper before he came into her life. That would make sense too, as to why Edward is very hesitant on the things he says to Bella about Alice and what she sees. Even though that doesn't go unnoticed by Bella.
