I think it's really important to remember that as fabulous as Edward is, HE IS A FICTIONAL CHARACTER. He does not exist. Nobody like him will ever exist. He is perfect only because he is fictional. Other woman have shared this same problem you're having, so you're definetely not alone. But it's a very unhealthy thing to do, cuz you'll never be satisfied with anyone if you try to compare them to Edward.

well...I was actually talking to my BFF about that this morning...it's not that i'm looking for everything that is edward, it's just taht certain characteristics really appeal to me. There's the gorgeousness factor yes, but it's also the fact that there is such a fierce love there, the protectiveness and then after my disappointed years of dating the thing that gets me most is the whole intimacy thing. It's not that i'm expecting to find a guy who's a virgin...it's just that it would be nice to meet a man who didn't expect me to jusmp into bed with him after the third date ...i keep using this wall thing a lot, LOL!!!

I think being single makes a huge difference with the "edward effect."
I'm not married so technically i have yet to "make my bed and lay in it" (no better phrase comes to mind lol sorry.. laying in a well made bed is something i AM looking forward to in the near future)
I too walk around with extremely high expectations in men.. did so in the past as well... but its a bit more clear now.. lol i want Edward... ASPECTS that LAY within the IDEA of Edward... The books, regardless of them being a work of fiction, have made me realize my refusal to settle for less than i was destined for. My destiny is NOT to work this DEAD END job i work at.. pine over a fictitious character in a book OR to jump in the bed on a first date with some loser.

LOL! funny, I do feel like i'm turning into a recloose...I just overdid the internet dating thing recently...3 months ago...like 3 dates a week...it got too much, all the disappointment, I haven't been able to get back out there

I am a single mother and after reading twilight i have literally walked around expecting to find this fictitious world popping into my reality. Not to be overly dramatic but I have had a crazy past couple of yrs as far as relationships are concerned and i was about to just GIVE UP on everything. And it has actually come to the point where i have I sit back and think to myself "you should not except anything less than "Edward."
I don't mean literally a chivalrous vampire with the face of a god... but more like what Edward represents in my mind. Love. Happy endings. DESIRE to want someone that badly! someone i cant live without... someone i cant stop thinking about. Someone who i cant wait to open my eyes to in the morning.. someone i cant wait to get home to in the evening... someone i cant live without.

Hmmm, I do think it is a mistake to judge people at first sight or based on first impressions. Remember how initially Edward thinks Bella is nothing special to look at. He came back to Forks not from any interest in her but because he didn't want to be the kind of person who ran away from a problem. He started a conversation with Bella just to appear more normal. He only became interested in her as a person when her answers showed that she was unselfish. That is something you would never be able to tell from looking!

I do think it's realistic to hope for and hold out for someone you can't stop thinking about, that you want to spend loads of time with, that you don't get tired of. That's what being in love is all about!
