I agree with this. I think it would have taken Jacob years (like ten or so) to convince Bella to marry him. Not because she wouldn't love him, but because of how she feels about marriage. So, I think she could be "with" him for 5 or 6 years and then your question fits...what would happen between Bella and Edward? I assume Bella would be in college- what if they met in college and her boyfriend Jacob was at home running a garage or something? How would that work? I imagine her and Edward's connection would be just as it is in Twilight. But she is loyal, so it would be much, much more difficult a situation for her. Thinking about this reminds me what a very wise friend told me about a relationship I was in: "Nichole, just because it isn't wrong does not mean it is right." Oh the wisdom of that thought. And once you feel right you never settle for "not wrong."

IF Bella came to Forks and the Cullens weren't there...I believe she wouldn't of become "attached" to any of the Forks boys nor Jacob because she was so deadset against marriage. She would have graduated and gone onto college. BUT, let's say that once the Cullens did move back...and Bella came home to visit Charlie...and she sort of ran into Edward...yeah, destiny prevails!

I thought about that too. But, not until I just finished Esclipse for I don't the 10th time.... something finally stood out to me. When Edward and Jacob are talking in the tent towards the end, Edward reminds Jacob that Jacob wouldn't have a choice much like Sam and Emily. Jacob's trying to convience Edward that they would have been happy together had Edward not come back.
"You see, Jacob, you might leave her someday. Like Sam and Emily, you wouldn't have a choice." end of pg 502
Jacob doesn't deny it either..... (I so hope he falls in love in the next book)
I never thought of Jacob not having a choice if he were to end up with Bella. He wouldn't have one- he'd have to hurt Bella worse than Edward had. At least before she went and saved Edward, she knew he was out there somewhere and loved her. While Jacob would love her, it wouldn't be the same commitment once he imprints.

| If Bella was really happy. I don't think Edward would come back. I think he might always silently watch over her. But, I don't think he would distrub her happiness in any way.

I shudder to think of this possibility. If the Cullens didn't show up until later.....then it might not have turned out to be the Twilight story that we all love. I agree w/ a few of you about Bella was so dead-set against marriage, that she probably wouldn't have married Jacob, or anybody else from Forks for that matter. I know that this is a fictional story but I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. In this case, Bella & Edward are just meant to be.....Yeah!
