I just wanted to ask you Twilightmoms experts about why the Cullens had to wait for a thunderstorm to play baseball? I never really got that one. _________________

Because they needed the noise to mask the loud sound of the ball when it hit the bat. It sounded like thunder. _________________

They have to wait for a thunderstorm because baseball is so loud when they play it. In the book when, Emmet hits the ball it's described as "The crack of the impact was shattering, thunderous; it echoed off the mountains" And a little while later when Carlisle and Jasper smash into each other "the sound was like the crash of two massive falling boulders"
They use the thunder as a cover for their game. If they played on a bright, cloudless day, people would wonder what was going on and maybe try and check it out. This way, they just think it's more thunder.

I don't know about anyone else, but I loved the idea of Vampires who loved playing baseball! I thought it was even better that they could only play during thunderstorms. It just added even more to the backstory of the Cullens. Could you imagine watching that baseball game? After that, how could you even think setting through a MLB game?

You shouldn't feel silly... I am almost finished with my second reread of Twilight and I just "got it".

Although the baseball/thunderstorm thing is something I did understand when I read Twilight, there are plenty of other things that confuse the heck out of me, but seem so simple when someone explains it. So no need to feel silly!
On a side note, I'm soooo looking forward to seeing the baseball scene in the movie. I think it's awesome the SM included that in the book. _________________ Join us for a DC/MD/NoVa meet up!
