Title: Faith Precedes the Miracle

Rating: K
Synopsis: This "one-shot" is really just a single scene exercise in elaborative creativity; it's offered as an alternative to the sequence beginning on p. 325 of Breaking Dawn when Edward "hears" the fetus for the first time, and Bella suggests possible baby names. This was written in an effort to recapture some of the tenderness that seemed to be missing between Edward and Bella at a very critical time in the story, but I never intended for it to become "fanfiction." I sacrificed sleep to put my musings to paper, but I have to admit that it was an entirely selfish effort; the finished product was only ever meant to be seen by my daughter's eyes and then discretely tucked away inside my own copy of Breaking Dawn. Unfortunately. . .my daughter shared it with a friend, who shared it with her mother, who shared it with another mother, who shared it with her daughter, who shared it with a very persistent friend of mine who would not let me rest until I promised to post it online. I'm more than a little embarrassed by all of this, but I suppose if it means as much to even one person as it does to me, it will have been worth it. _________________ "...but there were stars--points of light and reason."

Thank you, Marie! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I honestly didn't intend to continue, but other reviewers (at fanfiction.net) are taking your comment a step further and indicating that since this scene now replaces the original for them, they're hoping for follow-up sequences, as well. LOL. I was afraid of this, but the idea intrigues me. One person suggested doing a companion piece (to this one) from Edward's POV. That might be interesting to write. Another suggested a re-write of the birth scene. That's something I had already considered doing for my daughter, with a coherent Bella and a tenderly supportive, though still intensely focused Edward, including the first precious moments with Baby Elizabeth. Hmm. . .possibilities. _________________ "...but there were stars--points of light and reason."
