Terry Brooks has optioned the rights for this movie (and all Shannara books) to Warner Brothers. I read recently they were planning a late 2009 or early 2010 release for the movie.
I am so very excited about this. I read Wishsong of Shannara when I was 13 years old (almost 22 years ago). It was the first fantasy novel I ever read and is what made me fall in love with the genre.
Is anyone else a fan? They have not released any casting details, but I have some ideas of who I would like to see in the movie.

Yes!
I really hope it makes it through to production. Terry Brooks created such a great world and with the special effects available today it would be awesome to see it on the big screen.

*gasp* No way! That is so cool! So are they starting with Elfstones instead of the Sword, then? Very interesting. I'm going to have to go do some Google research on this now. _________________ My Edward is actually a Josh.

Yes! They think it will be more marketable because there are strong female characters in it. I found a lot through imdb.com and some web sites linked there. Good stuff

That makes sense. The romantic thread is more central to the story, too, I suppose... hooray for fun things to look forward to! (since we don't know when to expect the New Moon movie... ) _________________ My Edward is actually a Josh.

I read these many moons ago. I tried to read Sword of Shannara a few years ago, but I couldn't get into it. I will have to try again. I guess WB wants to pick up another series since HP will be over in a few years.
This could go well. IMDB says Mike Newell will direct. There are so many book to movie adaptations that have bombed lately I get nervous. The book series to movie I am most anxious for is The Wheel of Time, my favorite series (yes, I love it more than Twilight ). The rights have been sold to Universal and they will start with The Eye of the World. _________________

I LOVE LOVE LOVE WOT. I really hope the author who was selected to finish the series after RJ's death does a good job! I got Eye of the World when I was 17 and a senior in high school in 1990 I've been hooked ever since.

I think Brandon Sanderson will do a great job. I have faith in Harriet, and if she thinks he's the best person for the job, that's all I need. Geez, there should be a WoT thread since I now have somebody else to chat with about it, lol. I have brought it up in the other reads thread but not many people have read them here. I really should be working though. _________________
