But what can we, poor insignificant Twilight fans do? Any thoughts?
SM is a christian, I say we pray hard that it never ends, or that we never stop talking about it....There is a whole world out there to be converted, that is where we will focus! _________________ Do you ever think that your life might be easier if you weren't in love with me?
Maybe. It wouldn't be much of a life, though.

Crzybarb, it's hard to be talking about the saga ending, because there is the impending release of Breaking Dawn to be excited about. It's like planning an upcoming funeral on Christmas Eve.
I guess when Bella's story ends she and Edward then move to the pantheon of beloved literary characters of yesteryear, like Romeo and Juliet. We then have to ourselves move on. I have this fantsasy where in BD, it turns out that Bella wasn't transformed at all, that some Meyer Twist will occur and there will be a totally unexpected turn in the plot that would mean that the saga could continue.
But that's just my hallucination. SM did say that the essence of Twilight is Bella's "normal-ness" in contrast to Edward. Once that situation were to change, time then to wrap things up. The thing is, there really is no ironclad, airtight reason for the saga to end so soon. So many amazing turns of plot could still be introduced that could keep the story going for many more years to come. We could have been enjoying Edward, Bella and Jacob as constantly evolving characters for a long, long time to come.
If it ends, it's because Stephenie wants it that way.
If there would be a straightforward wedding with a bit of Denali/Volturi action thrown in, if there were to be an immortal Edward and Bella standing on a remote mountain top, holding hands as the first rays of dawn winked across the darkness while the credits started to roll, I for one would be so disappointed. Stephenie is such an enormously gift writer that I'm pretty sure she will NOT be that predictable.
Oh well, I can keep my hopes up about that for two plus weeks more. But until then, I can't help but say to myself, c'mon Stephenie, give us a REAL surprise! If that were to come true, I can imagine the internet suffering a meltdown.
With all the problems in the real world right now, and I don't have to spell out what those are, Twilight is one of those few bright shining spots of light in our lives. Is it too much to ask for that little bit of happiness to go on, for just a little while longer? _________________ fair to red, red to purple, purple to blue...

I would like to know about Carlisle life too, but in between more romance, I think we will hear more about jacob and nessy. I am not sure where I stand on that yet so hopefully I will have time to like that idea before she writes about it. I need more Edward and Bella, especially the new bella, She was kinda irritating as a human but now she rocks. _________________ "Of all the things about me that could frighten you, you worry about my driving."

My guess is that Jacob will have to suffer another triangle. It seems obvious that he will have competition from Nahuel, the human/vampire boy.
Not to mention, maybe Jacob will be the one to break the imprinting and fall in love with someone else if Nessy chooses someone else. He may not be what Nessie needs when she reaches maturity and is ready for romance. Maybe Nessie will need Jacob to be a good friend. (Just some thoughts. I'm not sure how I feel about these possibilities.)
Oh no! Poor Jacob! Not again!? The good thing is that TMs will be here for him.
Oh, and I too always need Edward and Bella. Don't know what I'm going to do without them. I don't think SM will be able to keep away from them either. She loves them too much. _________________

I think I read in an SM interview somewhere that someday, after she gets done with MS, more aliens and maybe a ghost and a mermaid or two, she just might revisit the Twilight again, maybe from Nessie's and Leah's (!!!) point of view. That's certainly an interesting thought!
With the current trend in movies of going back to a story's roots, maybe we will hear how Carlisle got his start. But a book set in the 1600s would be a whole new ball of wax for Stephenie. A LOT of research would be involved in getting historical details right, in the manner of James Michener. I get the impression that she would rather concentrate on the characters. But SM is also just creative enough to have a thread emanating from the past (Carlisle's origins) and a thread happening in the Now, and weaving the two together in an unexpected way.
With all the negativity surrounding BD from some people (I know, I know, free speech and all that), my fear now is that Stephenie will withdraw a bit from the outside world, and maybe set aside Twilight altogether. She did say that she was hurt. _________________ fair to red, red to purple, purple to blue...

somewhere (i can't remember exactly where, sorry!) i read an interview where sm said she likes the idea of telling the story from many different points of view and that doing so is something she wants to do in between projects.
not sure if that means totally new stories picking up where b.d. leaves off, or just many midnight sun-esque additions. either way-i don't care! thinking about the series being done for good makes me want to cry _________________

So where do we go from here?
Breaking dawn has brought a satisfying closure to many of the story threads started in Twilight; the issue of Bella's immortality, Jacob's imprinting, and so on. But this latest book has not completely shut the door on us, has it? The Volturi are still out there. The Cullens are firmly in their sights as their number one threat. Jacob has a rapidly-maturing Nessie to care for, and what other powers could she possess? We have finally met the Denali clan, and there are a whole lot of vampires (and their stories) that we know now. There are two Quilleaute packs for the first time in the tribe's history. Now that Stephenie has opened the door to hybrid beings, what are the possibilities of that?
We can dream, can't we? I'm just not that ready to walk away from Twilight just yet. _________________ fair to red, red to purple, purple to blue...

Like many of you I feel, as I did at the end of HP, as if I've lost several of my friends. I'm not sure more books would help me at this point though. Although I find the concept of more books intriquing, I like this closure. Maybe its a bit easier as I work in a high school and get to booktalk the series to students--and hope that they haven't read it already. I am looking forward to sharing it with my daughter...in about 9 years. I know there are a lot of stories that could spin off, but I might stay a bit saner if I stop saying "what if" and just re-read them and wait for the movie and guide. I don't think of it as walking away, just letting the stories marinate in my mind for a while (sorry for the food analogy). _________________ "Hand in Hand is the only way to land

I, too, miss Bella and Edward now that the saga is over. SM did leave it very open ended and I do hope that she continues to tell the Cullens' story through different POVs.
However, I also worry that the negative reaction to BD will cause her to leave her Twilight characters forever. I really hope not! _________________ "If I could dream at all, it would be of you. And I'm not ashamed of it."

Chief Swan and Ceflathrop, I'm worried too about the negativity surrounding BD and that it may discourage SM from writing. I'm concerned she may not continue. Hopefully, I'm wrong in this concern. I pray that SM will focus on all the positive reviews that are out there because there are many people that loved the book and see BD as favorite. _________________

I just cannot imagine it ending...I won't imagine it!!
But I see what you're saying about the negative feedback SM's received. I would be hurt too. I think BD was so misunderstood by so many. But I am thankful she left so many doors ajar...reading for new stories to be told. And all we can do is hope...
Although, I also made it a point to leave positive online reviews wherever I could and added a note to SM on the TM blog. _________________

I agree - I really hope she realizes how much these books mean to people.
I hope she does focus on the love and not the hate..

I hope that after SM takes a break from the craziness of putting out 2 books and a movie in the same year - she finishes Midnight Sun and by that time, we should be getting excited over the New Moon Movie!!!! That excitement should hold most of us - we're already re-reading these books and speculating.
I hope she eventually picks up the Jacob & Nessie line - Bella and Edward (et el) would still be involved. And what about the pack - if Jacob & Nessie both have 24 chromozomes and the story line follows into Nessie coming of age? Ohh!! So many possibilities!!!
It always amazes me that the nay-sayers get all the publicity. If people didn't like BD - too bad. There are way too many of us with only good things to say about it. SM is such a positive personality I'd be surprised that she would let the negative influence her without looking for the positive (that would be kind of like Edward believing Rose without checking with Alice?).
I'll read whatever she writes - I loved Host too - although I'm getting too old to be spending 12-15 hours reading books from cover to cover (because I can't put them down!!). _________________
