Couldn't find this info anywhere, so if there's already a thread please forgive me! :?
Since Rosalie was such a prissy "princess" when she was a human, I'm sure she had no interest in mechanics at that time. I thought when one is changed from human to vampire, one retains their same traits as when they were human. Is that correct? If so, I really wonder when and how Rosalie ever got interested in fixing cars after becoming a vampire. Any thoughts?

I always thought that SM threw that in there to compliment her motif of there being more than meets the eye to people. What would be the thing you would least expect, and give her that trait. Besides, I think most guys would say it was a real turn on, and that is part of her character.

Rosalie loves to go against the grain, and stand out, even though as a vampire she should keep a lower profile. If you follow this line of thinking, it makes sense that Rosalie likes to fix cars, it is not something that is as common for a female to do as it is a male, therefore, it is just another way she stands out from the rest..

It surprised me as well at first that Rosalie would be into fixing cars -- a dirty job for someone who likes to look her best. I guess that it just goes to show that there is much about Rosalie that SM has not explained to us.

Her love for cars and fixing them is the main reason why I love Rosalie. It shows she has depths that we dont know about. Also, there is nothing hotter than a hot chick in a car driving stick! lol.

Wow, I can't imagine how much detail is in SM's brain, about each of the characters I mean. It is just amazing to uncover all these extra unknowns about each one of them, AFTER reading the books. I suppose that's why we all keep on reading over and over, isn't it? Because each time we read and discuss we find out new important things! Thanks you guys!

ROFL. That's good. :)

The cars is one of the reasons I like her too - it really does show that she has a mysterious side. It's awesome she likes to get messy (I assume - since it goes with the territory), but so weird that she will get messy. I bet Emmett thinks it's totally hot.

I'd love to know what led Rosalie to her very first attempt at auto mechanics. I've always pictured Emmett in my mind as the most "blue collar, get in there and get your hands dirty" of all the Cullen men. Perhaps he had some influence in sparking Rosalie's interest in auto mechanics. With decades and decades of nothing but time on your hands, I'd imagine that there are many talents that the Cullen family have that SM simply hasn't written about. I do love the juxtaposition between Rosalie's beauty and her grease monkey abilities. :)

I do, too!

I also like what she says in her outtake "Miscalculation" (under the NM section at Steph's website), about tuning up the cars side-by-side with Edward, and how this is the only time he and she are perfectly in sync. She enjoys those moments with him, and her saying so helps me see that she really does care for Edward even if he's not exactly her favorite family member....

I think that maybe it's one situation where she can be the best. Everyone else has a talent, this one's ALL Rosalie and she knows it! Sit there and look pretty just isn't enough.

I agree. I've always loved Rosalie, but once I read Miscalculation I loved her more. I get her so much. I'm excited to see interactions between her and Edward in Midnight Sun, since we dont get to see any the other books really.

That's what I always figured that because of all the time on their hands, they've learned how to do lots of things, just to help with all the time they have. I'd like to know what other talents they do have if any.

Well, they make excellent forgeries, can speak Korean sign language, compose compositions on the radio, practice medicine (3 of them), plan military attacks, etc. .....
