Do you have a guess as to what Jake's headaches might be?

Jake guessed that his headaches might be Lois's mother trying to be a mother through Jake. Jake did take over her maternal role and it seems to fit. I thought the dragons did communicate telepathically with Jake, so it makes sense. Since he is not a dragon, I would assume that is why he has headaches since he doesn't have dragon telepathy abilities.

Dragons also communicated telepathically in Eragon.

Since Lois was too small to manage any telepathic communication it must have been Halcyon, Lois' mother, who was helping Jake with the childrearing.

I think the headaches were caused by Lois' mother...didn't it mention that in the story? Maybe not, but when you go back to the scene where Jake is looking into Lois' mother's eye, Jake thought he saw a bit of hope in her eye which could have been the transition point.

i thought the headaches were from the dragons trying to communicate with him. it was a nice tough to add later on that it had a lot to do with the mother and Lois imprinting on him.

I am curious though, how come they never had that happen before. I understand about Jake, but once it was all out in the open then all of a sudden everyone started getting headaches. How come that didnt happen before?

I think the headaches were the dragons way of communicating with the humans with whom they've had contact. Notice Jake's Dad had them, along with Martha.
Seeing as all creatures have their way of communicating, the dragons in the story use telepathic means of communication. Although not in a telepathic way, I think we do it with each other during those moments when we just cannot say anything out loud. Our pets do it to us too.
I am wondering if the headaches are caused by the intense energy the dragons emit. They are huge creatures trying to communicate with a relatively small human being, using such intense telepathic communication that is neither words nor always pictures.
Just a thought...
