How did I become obsessed with Twilight? The blame rests solely on the shoulders of my daughter and her friends. For months my 17-year old had been begging me to read these books. Our heated conversations generally went like this:

Amy: “Mom! Read Twilight!”
Me: “A young adult series about vampires? Are you kidding me? No way!”
Amy: “I guarantee you’ll love them.”
Me: “Vampires are cheesy.”
Amy: (meekly, and with an attempt at full disclosure) “Well…there’s also this werewolf…”
Me: (snort) “Forget it!”
Amy: “But all of my friends have read them and they all love them! It would mean a lot to me…”
Me: (humoring her) “Ok, Ok…maybe someday.”

Someday occurred the week of April 15th when I performed a “swan” dive on our stairs worthy of a certain first-person narrator. I broke my foot and just for good measure, sprained my ankle. It was the perfect time to read three 500+ page books with the added bonus of getting my daughter off my back.

More than two months have passed. I’m finally free of the cast and the crutches. My house is slowly returning to its pre-accident state of cleanliness. And I’m addicted to a young adult series of books about vampires and werewolves. At least my daughter is off my back, right? Wrong. Now our conversations sound like this:

Amy: “Mom! Stop reading Twilight!”
Me: (slowly looking up from my book) “Did you say something?”
Amy: “Mom, you seriously need help. You are obsessed with these books!”
Me: “That’s true, but whose fault is that? Yours! I never would have read them if you hadn’t hounded me in the first place!”
Amy: “You’re right.” (Thinking quickly) “So…does that mean I get to read Breaking Dawn first?”
Me: “Are you kidding me??!! No way!! We are buying two copies at midnight, young lady, and I plan to be done with my first read through of Breaking Dawn by the time dawn breaks on Saturday! I’ll try to keep mum about the ending till you finish your copy…”

Anyway, thanks Twilight Moms…for giving a Twilight addict a place to visit on the web where people understand the obsession. And thank you Stephenie Meyer for writing these wonderful stories and sharing your incredible gift!

“You know what I think?” I said.
Edward laughed. “No.”

LOL! Sounds like the conversation between me and my daughter! They beg you to read the book and then tell you your obsessed, lol, go figure!
