This is how I felt when I posted like two days ago. I agree with the others, stick to it. I'm now past 100 pages and the story is now picking up greatly. I'd say the first 60 pages are the hardest. I'll have to reread them after I finish.

I had trouble the first 200 pages on the first time through. (It took 196 pages in Twilight to get to the quote from the back of the book when Bella realizes that Edward is a vampire) I am re-reading and it makes so much more sense now that I'm "getting it" much better the second time through. Don't give up - it' worth it!

Ok I'm going to stick with it. I think I'll need to start again though because I gave up and put it aside and now I don't remember anything.......

Count me in as someone who just cannot get into this book :(

I'm about 200 pages in and just can't make myself go on. I put it aside and told myself I'd read another book (Funny Boys) I bought recently then go back & finish The Host.

Well, I've read Funny Boys...The Monsters of Templeton...Heart Sick & What the Dickens and *still* haven't gotten back to The Host.

I don't know what my problem is...I just find myself having to re-read each page 2 or 3 times because I just can't make myself pay attention. But I do think the book has an interesting premise and I really like the characters...I just can't figure out what my problem is. I'm a bad SMeyer fan

Completely agree! I finished it last night as well.

The first 200 pages were a bit slow. However, once the story picked up I found that putting the book down was near impossible.

I have to say (don't throw any tomatoes!) that I actually enjoyed the host more than New Moon or Eclipse (Twilight is still my favorite SM book). This book was awesome! I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it given that I was not terribly excited to read it. What a unique treasure!

Can't wait for book 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think that anyone will thow tomatoes I have heard this repeatedly, I for one loved this book nearly as much (acutually I am reading Ecplise again right now and it seems like when I am reading the TS it is my fav but when I am reading the hos it's my favorite I also go back and forth between Ian and Edward depending on which one I am reading at the time.) as The TS books.

Well I'm glad I listened to you guys and tried again. I'm further along in the book than I got last time, I made it over the 200 page hurdle and BAM! It hooked me! I will have it finished tonight.

I LOVE it!

Chapter 47, started last week sometime. Shame on SM for making the middle so compelling because I could NOT put it down last night and then couldn't get all the way to sleep for about an hour or two thinking about it. Good thing the sermon at church was interesting, I was feeling that super late night this morning!

My advice is to just power through it, it will hook you!

I'll be done tonight then off to the discussions!

To start off I would have never picked this book to read if I hadn't loved Stephenie Meyer's style of writing sooooo much when I read all of those wonderful vampire books :D That said, I'm having a hard time getting into the book. I will finish it and I'm happy to hear that it gets better in the middle (I'm almost there).

There is a part of me that wishes that Edward would show up in one of the chapters  Hey, right now I'd even settle for Jacob!!!! I think I may go and reread Twilight again!!!

Thank you for making me keep at it! I LOVED it!

I even shed a few tears a couple of times.

Now I'm addicted to another series....grrr... lol

At least I can do my bit to make sure SM stays in the top books :D

Just on page 98. I am starting to get into it. I just finished "Eclipse" for the second time. I am missing the Cullen's already. I am going to stick with this one though. I really want to see what SM has in store. I am going to take ya'lls word for it!

Okay, so I just got back from our 4th of July vacation on the lake and I was able to finish the Host while I was there! I have to agree with everyone else that the book improves dramatically the more you get into it! I liked reading it! It was a very good story ~ not the same as Edward and Bella's story of course, but still a good summer read!

Just starting chapter 24 and I can't tell you if I like it or not.
I'm not sure where it's going, I can usually figure it out by this point, but maybe that's a good thing. I know where I want it to go, but I can never be to sure when it comes to SM.

I'm about half way done! It's taken me A LOT longer to read than the whole Twilight series. I thought it was a little slow at first, but now it's really picking up and I like it!
