I'm a sucker for a sweetie so I'd have to say that I'm an Ian girl all the way. I've struggled with Jacob and Edward for some reason because I got caught up in both of their characters. For most of New Moon, I was so angry at Edward that I was starting to become a Jacob fan. By the end of it, I was torn and stayed that way through Eclipse.

But when it came to the end of The Host, Jared didn't hold any appeal for me for some reason. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just because I go for the rescuer type of guy. The one who swoops in and takes care of you when the other guy has hurt you, that kind of thing.

Completely agree, on all accounts!!

Go TEAM IAN!

Ian no doubt! I wanted to like jared more I really did- especially after someone mentioned on another site if you were for Ian you were obviously a Jacob fan and Jared= Edward I just don't think thats true. Jared can be and is very cruel I know its because he is still hurting for Mel but that doesn't excuse it in the end- He was that bad HS relationship-
When do we get the next Host book???

It's very hard for me to choose. I really like them both, in their own right. However, I fell in love with Ian! I love his intense compassion and love for Wanderer! The fact that he could remove himself from the situation, and love her for who/what she was, just sent my hear a fluttering.

TEAM IAN!!!

He is so sweet and giving. He gives his whole heart. There is a lot of Edward in him and that is never a bad thing.

I just finished The Host last night...and I'm on Team IAN! What a perfect combination of Edward and Jacob from the Twilight Saga. Ian has Edward's devotion/passion and Jacob's persistence without the annoying aspect. Ian never asked Wanda for anything...he told her how he felt and left it at that, respected her feelings, and let her realize the love she had for him in her own way. Not to mention I'm a sucker for a black hair/blue eyes...what a dynamic combination.

I really do like both guys.
But Jared for Melanie & Ian for Wanda or umm me

I LOVE Edward but loving Ian doesn't make me feel like a cougar or dirty old lady. But Edward is techinically older than me right?

This question is almost unfair. Since the book was told from Wandere's perspective, we only knew of Melanie and Jared if Wanda shared. I don't really feel like I got to know either very well. Yes Wanda loved Jared, but only because Melanie's memories and feelings forced her to. Wanda chose to fall in love with Ian so we got to know him better. For that reason, it's easier to be Team Ian. Ironically, I read somewhere where SM said Ian was meant to be a wingman to Kyle's aggressive tendencies but he just wouldn't go where SM wanted him to. Obstinate and stubborn Ian!

Or...humane and open-minded Ian?

Good point. Slightly related to that, I felt like Jared was introduced through Melanie's perspective rather than Wanderer's, since they're Melanie's memories that are breaking through and which we are viewing along with Wanderer when we meet him. Therefore, my first impression of Jared is really coming from Mel. Nevertheless, I agree with you that I don't feel I know either Melanie or Jared well...or rather, it's not so much that I feel I don't know them, but that I feel somewhat disconnected from them. I'm not particularly fond of either one.

It would be nice if a sequel were to be told from another character's POV besides, or in addition to, Wanda's; then I could perhaps get a different perspective on Jared and Melanie and discover more things to like about them. I admire their survival skills, determination, single-minded approach to problems, and their devotion to each other...but they're harsh, abrasive people. They develop this way of necessity, it's true, yet other characters manage to endure similar travails and retain a core of sweetness that these two seem to lack. I would like to see how they come across to other characters besides each other and Wanda.

I'm definetly Team Ian. I love that he and Wanda had to earn each other's love. That they really saw each other for who they were. Whenever Wanderer/Mel kissed Jared, I really didn't feel much. But with Ian, my pulse was racing and I didn't want them to stop. Ian was sweet, caring, protective, and just plain yummy.

You know, I felt the same way.

I also like your point that they had to earn each other's love. It wasn't a love at first sight situation, or one where one partner was pursued and wooed by the other. It was one of mutual discovery occurring alongside personal growth and understanding so that by the time they declared themselves they had a deep, abiding attachment. Ian, of course, realized what his feelings were long before Wanda understood hers, but that's because he's human and much more experienced in terms of individual feelings and interaction and emotion.

I agree with both of you, the fact that they had to earn each other's respect first which then grew into something more was great to read about. For me, Jared never belonged to Wanderer so he was never really in contention. I think Mel's reluctance at having Ian feeling anything for Wanderer because of the physical repercussions it could have for Mel's body (kissing, etc.) confused Wanda even more, but I'm glad that in the end she realized she had true feelings for Ian. Wanda telling Ian "I can never love you in this body" just broke my heart! The Ian/Wanda and Jared/Mel dynamic was a lot more powerful for me than your average love triangle.

after thinking more and more I still have to say I lean more toward team Ian

this is how I also felt reading about Ian and Wander together and I always looked forward to there being together but then at the sometime I felt the same about Jared and Mel I was always glad that they were together but the way you are describing right there I always felt that strong about Ian and wander more then Mel and Jared it was different it was so interesting I loved them at the beginning and there love story when we were told but as we got into more of Ian and wander then I was so into there love story and was sad at the end when I thought that they might not be together so I guess I am still more team Ian but yet still confused I do love Ian a little more though
