I cried my eyes out as usual! The way that Stephenie brings the characters to life just pulls me in emotionally.

I cried about pg 300/301 (just after Jared kissed her). Then I was upset when Wes died, but the waterworks really went to work about pg 510 when Wanda is thinking about how much she loves this body and how she would have to say good-by to the only planet she's ever cared about. The tears never really dried up after that and got really bad (sobbing point) when Ian finally figured everything out and..........

Ah!!!

I read this book 5 times cover to cover and have cried everytime.

I think the tears bubbled a bit when Jared kissed her, but mostly when she decided that she was going to die. After that I was a complete wreck and I could hardly read the final 3 chapters!

I cried from the time Wanda was with Walter as he died and pretty much to the end. Those two blank pages were quite powerful. SM is a master writer.

I wasn't much of a crier since I was so scared something was going to happen to Wanda and the humans through much of the book but when I read what Ian said to Wanda about holding her in his hand and seeing how beautiful she was, THAT is when the tears started flowing!! I thought they had dried when I talked with my mom about the book but when I told her about that part, they started again!! What love he has for Wanda

I just finished the book this afternoon. THAT exact scene is what sent me over the edge. I was SO pleased that the ending turned out the way it did, between Wanda and Ian. I am glad the book took that course. *squee*

I cried when walter died, then I cried non-stop from when Wanda was making her decision.

I cried when she kissed Ian and realised she loved him and that he was her soulmate, I cried when Jared said goodbye, I cried when Mel and Wanda said they loved each other, I cried when Doc said goodbye and then I cried when she woke up - especially when Ian kissed her.

Wow...so the answer is YES I balled my eyes out, is was such a moving book.

I didn't cry quite as much as you, but it's hard to make me cry during a book. (I didn't even cry in New Moon.) But actual tears were flowing right before those blank pages - when Wanderer was following through with her choice. I was just crying. I was very emotionally drained over the weekend becuase of my fictional stories (I finished HP 6 after I finished the Host.)

I havent read the whole thread, but this is where i started to tear up. I didnt actually cry because my boyfriend was in the room. So i had to stop reading and watch TV for a minute, so i could compose myself before i continued reading.

I totally agree! So many things surprised me about this book. I was unprepared for Ian's love for Wanderer (but oh, what a wonderful story), and even more unprepared at my empathy for Wanderer. I found that though she is an alien, soul, whatever, she embodies everything that is humane about being human. Her ultimate sacrafice, ending her existence, was so emotional that I put the book down for a bit to compose myself. I knew SM would give us a happy ending, but getting there at times was rough!

Same here! i wasn't expecting the Ian/Wanderer thing either. AT ALL. I HAD to keep reading because i was so afraid that they were going to hurt Wanderer. LOL

I don't cry easily at books, I didn't even cry when Edward left in NM, (I think I started hyperventilating though), but this was the exact place I started to cry in the Host. I actually reread the whole book a second time right after I finished it the first time beacuse I had read it so fast, and I EVEN CRIED THE SECOND TIME! Wanderer's sacrifice was just so real, what a great book!

I didn't cry, didn't even tear up, but when Wanda and Jared get back to the caves, and Wes was dead, and the Seeker was there, reading about Wanda's fear, I was actually nauseous, and panicky, The Seeker is in the Caves!. And then, when Wanda was 'remembering' Pet's abduction, and I realized what that meant, I was so happy, I thought my heart would burst out of my chest. That was amazing.

I cried both times I read the book. I'm considering starting it a 3rd time but I'm getting through the Outlander series. Yep, I bawled!

I just finished The Host finally (was reading it with my DH) and YES, I cried SO much! That is saying a lot because I don't cry easily! Steph knows how to tug those heart strings in all the right ways!

I didn't cry, but it definitely does "pull the heart strings"!
