OK, sorry for the long post but I think this is the most important dilema in the series, so:

I wasn't angry with Bella for falling in love with Jacob. No one can control who they fall in love with - it isn't always a logical process and she really didn't have any control over it. And I view her love for Jacob as very different from her love for Edward. If the Cullens had never settled in Forks and Bella somehow ended up spending time with Jacob and fell for him I can see them dating as a high school couple, but nothing more permanent than that (on Bella's side at least). She would have gone off to college somewhere warm and moved on with her life, remembering Jacob fondly as her first boyfriend but nothing more.

Edward, on the other hand, is obviously so much more than a first high school boyfriend - he is her destiny, her perfect match, ultimate soul mate, whatever name you want to give to their eternal love.

I like what Amie wrote about Bella having reservations about the wedding because she hadn't formally resolved her dilemma. Just like Bella's subconscious knew that Edward really did love her in NM, on some level she knew she had non-platonic feelings for Jacob - and that those feelings were pointless because they weren't strong enough to change anything between herself and Edward. So rather than consciously admit to her feelings for Jacob she suppressed them in an effort to not hurt either guy and to keep her best friend in her life.

In her Anne of Green Gables scenario, Bella could see herself marrying Edward in 1918 without any hesitation because she wasn't giving up her parents, mortality, dealing with the stigma of marrying too young, etc. When all those issues were eliminated, Bella was easily able to see herself marrying Edward, which to me shows that deep down she really does want to be his wife.

The fact that she had a vision of herself married to Jacob with kids was just her way of reasoning through her life-altering decision to become a vampire, not a wish to have that life specifically with Jacob. Bella needed to compare a mortal life in the present day to an immortal life with Edward. Since she had feelings for Jacob it was just logical that he would fill the role of the mortal "husband" in that scenario, but I never really saw her feelings for Jacob lasting a lifetime. Their attraction was always more friendship, teenage hormones, and a need to get over Edward (in NM) or appreciating his support through a difficult time and trying to revert to a past friendship since no one could replace Edward in her heart (Eclipse). Jacob is the rebound guy, but because he's also a friend (and almost family) and because Bella hates to lose people in her life or hurt others, she ended up making a difficult situation worse than it had to be.

The part about Bella that does upset me is that she acted on her feelings for Jacob. I view her make-out session with Jacob as cheating on Edward - and she wasn't even cheating on a boyfriend (which would be bad enough) but on her fiancee. As soon she started to respond to Jacob's blackmail kiss and consciously acknowledged her feelings she should have pulled away. Plus she never specifically said the words "I'm sorry" to Edward or explained that the most hysterical part of her tears were for hurting him. Instead she let Edward comfort her all night while she cried (seemingly only) over losing Jacob. Edward was right - Jacob would never clear a path for Edward to have Bella all to himself - and Bella's too smart to honestly fall for Jacob's trick. She wanted an excuse to kiss him and work through her feelings once and for all. I definitely want a scene in BD where she explains things to Edward so that he doesn't think it was a toss-up between himself and Jacob - because as Bella even says in Eclipse there was never a choice to make, only a matter of letting Jacob down. And I think it's high time for Bella to feel a little jealousy as someone flirts with Edward, lol!

Bella does feel some sort of jealously towards TANYA...but it can't compare to what Edward feels...

Yeah, but when she finally sees Tayna, she might feel more jealous.

Not to sound mean..but..I HOPE SO...sometimes I think Bella needs a dose of her own medicine!!!

Well, I just have this feeling the she is going to meet the Denali vampires, and Tayna is going to throw kerosene on the fire when she realizes that Bella is jealous.

Very interesting I could see if Tanya were to show up then there would be some Jealousy because I think I could see Tanya trying one last time or just get under Bella’s skin especially if she does not agree with Edward being with a human.

Whether Tanya really wants Edward or not, she is not going to take it easy Bella. I don't imagine her as the type that handles rejection very well, and for a human to snag Edward....

Very true! My heart just goes out to Edward whenever Bella and Jacob are hanging out. I also agree that Bella needs a taste of her own medicine. Maybe Tanya will give that to her. Of course, I don't want anything to come between Edward and Bella, but Bella takes him for granted sometimes and she needs to stop doing that.

I agree Tanya if she shows up will defiantly be a problem in ways but at least we know that there is nothing there for Edward. So even if Bella thinks there is and gets jealous we know that Edward loves Bella so much that no Tanya could come in and ruin that she had her chance and Edward did not want her.

I just like how this all played out because she does love Jacob just Edward more.

Because she could have had a happy life with Jacob but her life will be happier with Edward and Jacobs will be a good life to he just need to find his one true love Oh I just need a happy ending

Amie-I believe we will all get a happy ending. Jacob and Tanya might cause some trouble, but NOTHING can destroy EDWARD'S and BELLA'S love for each other.

I think Jacob will get a happy ending also...Tanya...I am not sure.

I bet Bella will be able to handle Tanya in the end though. She may get her knickers in a twist at first, but my money is on Bella.

I hope so!!! I love these books and I have loved the love between Edward and Bella and I jsut need it to end happy

a little spice (and conflict) is always necessary in any relationship. it would be really interesting to see and analyze bella's reaction to tanya, if they do meet. although i also have this feeling that conversely, tanya will also be mighty jealous of bella!

yes, its truly wonderful that edward and bella are together, but i happen to love jacob too! my heart just went out to him in the final chapters of EC.

i believe that we are given different people to fulfill different needs and roles in our lives. that's why i completely understand bella's need of jacob, even with edward around.

i'm sure (i truly hope!) that stephenie will also give jacob a happy ending in BD. if there's a character in the series who deserves that, its him.
