I'm about a third of the way through- and it's a good read- but it's not my brand of heroin- Please don't hate me!
I'm going to pick it up again tonite
They are intereseting characters but I just don't feel connected to them yet-... _________________ "I coveted you... I had no right to want you but I reached out and took you anyway - Edward

Ok I feel the mad need to explain myself maybe its the eye staring me down- I do enjoy it but I don't LOVE it- yet- which is a bummer because I like sci fi- I think there maybe too many obvious comparisons to BSG-"the cylons look like us now" for me to separate it on its own.
off to give it one more try- after work of course... _________________ "I coveted you... I had no right to want you but I reached out and took you anyway - Edward

I have read The Host twice now, and I love it. I love the complexity of the characters, and the emotions involved. To all of you out there who have read it once and like it, but don't love it, read it again! The beginning especially was hard to get through initially, but the second time through, it makes so much more sense! And by the way, no spoiler here I cried both times I read it (certain parts anyway) Man, can you feel the LOVE!!

Just finished it today. I agree with most of the posts: It does take a little time to work into it. It's wasn't as intense (for me) as the Twilight series. I DID cry a few times and laugh a few times, but never got as emotionally attached to these characters like I do with Bella, Edward, the Cullens, Jake... I liked the story very much, don't get me wrong, (I'd LOVE to have the advanced medical knowledge of the souls!) and I'll buy the sequels, but I know I won't love them like I love Twilight. The complexity of the story (stories) are outstanding. Thanks SM for another hit!

I finished it a few days ago...it was a longer read than any of the Twilight books, but I don't think that's a bad thing at all!
I will say that the characters grow on you...I didn't realize how much until the very end of the book.

I finished it over the weekend and really liked it. How Stephenie Meyer is able to make fingertips brushing down an arm so darn sexy is just amazing. When can we start a thread with spoilers?! Can't wait to discuss it further! _________________ "I already know how strong you are. You didn't have to break the furniture." ~Bella

I finished it last night and I agree with many of the posts.
I was not sure about reading this one. I am not into Sci-fi AT ALL!! But my DH gave The Host to me for Mother's Day (and he ordered Breaking Dawn for me ) so I figured I had to read it. So glad I did! It is GREAT!
It does take a little longer to get into (although it took me through chapter 3 in Twilight too I can hardly believe that now) Stephenie's imagine is utterly amazing to me which is what kept me going at first. I would say about 1/3 of the way in though I was hooked. Overall it is a harder read meaning it just goes a little bit slower. So many new ideas to focus on. I will probably read it again, but not right away. I am still working to get my mind around it all.
I would definitely say that you cannot expect Twilight out of this book. It is totally different but with Stephenie's unique way to tell a story. Anyone that can get me to read a book about vampires and aliens and then to make me fall in love with the books..........Stephenie Meyer you are amazing! Thank-you! _________________ "My heart is just as silent,....And it, too, is yours." Eclipse p. 439

Stephenie is amazing! I loved this book. It's totally different than Twilight in a lot of ways and yet the same in other ways. An absolutely fabulous book. For those struggling through the first part of the book keep going. Steph is laying the foundation for a fabulous ride!! Keep reading!!

I was kind of shocked that I loved the book as much as I did. It hooked me right away, made me cry (which does not happen often), and fall in LOVE with Ian (to the chagrin of my husband
I only hope she writes more! _________________
