I still have yet to attempt Wuthering Heights (I seem to remember that I caught part of one of the early movie versions as a child), but my most recent brush with Bronte (next to the references in the Twilight books) was the hilarious cover of Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights on the Puppini Sisters' Betcha Bottom Dollar CD. With a catchy chorus of "Heathcliff, its me, Cathy. Come home. I'm so cold! Let me in-a-your window," how could I refuse? Anyone else here familiar with the song and any thoughts on how accurately it reflects the novel?

Wow, talk about dusting off the cob webs of my 33-1/3 record collection! I still have the album "The Kick Inside" I know that Wuthering Heights was a Top single hit sometime in the late 70's in the UK. Sometime after that, Pat Benatar covered it too. Tori Amos also covered a song by her.

I am old enough to remember having seen her perform in a gold leotard on Saturday Night Live in the 70's; she was one of the most intriguing musical performers they'd ever had on that show. This was before they started booking Top 40 and "popular" acts.

The song's lyrics *do* portray the story (however simplistically). It's depicted from Cathy's perspective, capturing her selfishness and desperate attitude.

BTW: Kate Bush has the same birthday as Emily Bronte! She was something of a child prodigy, and her husband is a musical technician.

I always love Kate Bush songs....covered by other muscians. For example, I love Pat Benatar's version of WH better. And I absolutely adore Running up that hill by Placebo AND the version by Within Temptation.
I think Kate Bushis very talented - I'm just not a huge fan of her singing.
