I would like to introduce May's Vendor of the Month - Blue's Creative Outlet!!! Mary creates beautiful and unique Twilight related pendants that I know you all are going to LOVE! So stop and look at her amazing jewelery!
Mary - Hello everyone! I am Mary of Blue's Creative Outlet & I am SO excited to be May's Vendor of the Month - which also happens to be my birthday month as well! What an awesome surprise! It is such an honor and a huge compliment to be nominated for this wonderful position. Currently I am a mommy of a 5 year old girl, a wife of 6 years, and a compulsive crafter living in the same state as Stephenie Meyer - yay! I love the beauty of this desert, even though it gets hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk during the summer (my brothers have tried it, it's true).
ET - What is your crafting/art background and how did you get started making the items in your etsy store?
I have been craft-oriented since before I can remember. As a child I always loved drawing, painting, and anything requiring glue, paper, and some scissors. As I got older I became interested in portraits, photography, and jewelry. I was always admiring the sparkle and talent around me, and in my free time I would pick up lots of different books and learn the basics of oil painting, polymer clay, drawing, beading and whatever else I could get my hands on at the time. For awhile I was just a hobbyist and simply enjoyed making stuff at home. Then I met several wonderful women on Etsy (Georgia/GypsyWings happened to be one of them). Together we formed the Phoenix Craft Mafia - a group devoted to making, selling, and celebrating handcrafted goods in the Phoenix area. I knew then that I wanted to turn my love of making jewelry into a real business and finally recoup some of my costs from all the obsessive bead hoarding and crafting supplies I had acquired over many years. Today our Phoenix Craft Mafia has taken off and has even been awarded Best of Phoenix by the New Times for 2007!
ET - How did you find out about Twilight?
Georgia knew that I loved reading vampire romance novels and so she excitedly told me about this new author who was writing vampire fiction of a different sort. I became intrigued after she practically hyperventilated telling me about it. She loaned me the first book, and that was it - I was hooked. I immediately had to go out and buy all the rest of Stephenie's books and read them within days of buying them. They are so wonderful and they "sucked" me right in. hehehe
ET - What inspired you to create Twilight related items?
I'm constantly thinking up new ideas for my online Etsy store, so it was not long before I wanted to create some cool Twilight wearable art that I could take with me wherever I went. I then branched out to creating jewelry for other fans of Stephenie's books. It's so fulfilling making friends with other women who are just as obsessed with Twilight as I am all the while creating something they love, too.
ET - Describe your items and what they are made of?
I use a mix of materials including beads, wire, polymer clay, resin, paper, chain and much more. I love photography and drawing, so my pendants are a mixture of my original hand drawn art and photos I have taken around Arizona, California, & Colorado.
ET - What do you do when you aren't creating jewelery?
When I'm not creating jewelry, I am running around the house taking care of my 5 year old daughter, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 1 husband. Keeping up the house and family while maintaining a small business at the same time has been a lot of work! Sometimes it's really hard to balance the two elements, but I'm loving every minute of it. I am totally fulfilled juggling my duties as a mom, a wife, and being a crazy compulsive crafter.
