OK. Reading WH has become a real challenge to me. I am about a third of the way through it and I just cannot connect to these characters. I was getting into it, but then I have lost all interest. Maybe it is because I am itchin to revamp, or maybe because I have about 6 other novels I just bought at the Borders closing sale.... I dunno

So, I ask, is there anyone else who, like me, is considering putting it down and reading something else???

Should I just buckle down and finish it?

Argh! Help!

Jaeven!!!! I was in your exact position last Saturday! I just wasn't liking it AT ALL...But I finished it today, and you know what? I really did like it! Mind you, it's not Twilight or anything, but it is good, and I'm so glad I stuck it out! I actually started getting in to it around chapter 13. I kept picturing Edward reading the book, which is what got me that far. You should totally stick it out, though! It does get better!

I haven't picked up the copy I have for over a week. I've been reading another book instead. *glances down at the copy on her desk collecting dust* I'll try to finish it after I finish reading my other book.

I was going to persist. I really was. I don't like to quit. I even took it with me to the doctor's office the other day where I had an hour and a half wait. I read the chapter, where "Blank" "blanked", and it took about 20 minutes. I did crack the spine on it really good so it stays open nice now, so that's a plus. But I stared at the ceiling for the rest of the time. That was pretty enjoyable. I just can't deal with this book.

Wuthering Heights bonfire, anyone? (I'm kidding - book burning is naughty!) ;)

I think- If you guys can just get to Edgar's death, it may pick up for you. Maybe. I have been considering rereading it. Shimmerskin has made some really good comments and I was thinking maybe I missed some good things in my first time through. But then again- just how much of my life do I have to give to a book I will probably never enjoy? A really good, rich, deep book I'm rereading right now... "Jane Eyre" by Emily's sister, Charlotte. I didn't like her sniping, snotty comments about my wonderful Jane Austen, but I think her story, while dark, sad, uplifting & joyful- with characters which can be just the same, is much, much more to my taste. Give it a shot- you'll likely find it a good bit less distasteful & laborious than "Wuthering Heights," which lives up to its name!! I was going to go through & pull out all my sage observations, too, but blah, blah, blah... I found I could care less than to disect this horrid book. Again, time that will never be returned!!!

Oddly, enough, I found myself noting greater parallels between the main characters in "Jane Eyre" than "WH". Jane & Mr. Rochester, Edward & Bella had a number of things common to their respective characters. Mr. R is much older than Jane, and both have difficulty seeing themselves as worthy to be loved- for a small start.

D

Ladies!! You've gotta give it a chance...Seriously, I was the biggest critic! I hated it! I talked bad about it! I especially couldn't stand when Joseph was talking, because I couldn't understand a darn word he said! :x But I promise you that it really honestly does get better! When your done, you'll be glad you waited it out...It's not as horrible as you think! Give it another chance...don't give up yet! :D

I also finished this morning. It does get better. I agree after Edgar's dies it is alot better. I kept telling myself afterI finish this I could revamp T, NM ,& E, as a reward :D . Maybe that will help you get thr it.

If you can hang in there until about 1/3 way through I think it starts getting really good (as in interesting, not as in happy, ha ha)

You will be glad if you finish it. I can't explain this book. I liked it and hated it at the same time. I've never had quite this same reaction to any book. Same with the main characters I both hated and cared for Catheine and Heathcliff.

I was glad the ending was happyish in it's own weird way.

I really tried reading it a couple months ago, I couldn't finish it. I got about 3/4 of it read then I had to stop. Then I read The Twilight books again and was happy. I mean I liked WH and mostly understood it but i just couldn't do it anymore.
