neither one of them is decribed in the books as talking with an accent. I personally don't imagine either one with one either.

No way they have southern drawls   Just the thought makes me laugh

I've always pictures Jasper as having a very slight Texas drawl, something that you can't quite put your finger on, but is there on another level. Over time people can lose their accents or like Carlisle, Jasper might mask his accent to avoid questions. Jasper's calm demenor strikes me as very rooted in his southern gentleman background. I think it was one of the character traits that makes him oh so fictionally attractive!

Like edwards_obsession mentioned, he was still polite to Maria and the other two girls when they crossed him when he was still human. Being raised that way, I hope at least a bit stayed with him in his vampire life.

I really hope that chivalry is part of his character as well...As I read Eclipse and heard more of his story, I realized that Jasper is truly complex. And one of the most interesting and endearing things about him is that after all that he has been through, being scarred literally and figuratively, he still moves forward to be a better vampire and loves those around him deeply and passionately which in turn gives him the motivation to be better. I think he will be that character that will constantly strive to be something more...SM could write a book about him and I would totally read it.

And as far as the southern gentleman idea...he definitely embodies that. I think it is a little amazing that Jackson Rathbone is playing Jasper for the mere fact that he grew up in Midland, Texas. So I hope that he brings that special something to Jasper's character. I believe that if sequels are made that he definitely has the potential to make Jasper the chivalrous Southern gentleman we all see.

:D

Thats why I cant wait for Midnight Sun. With it being in Edward's POV, we are obviously going to see much more of Jasper in that one than in Twilight.

I think the southern drawl would be fun, but I think I want to see him as more chilvarus. Those times curteosy to even your enemies was important. I could see him calling everyone sir and ma'am, and opening the doors for women in general. A very southernly gentlemen. I am hoping to see that, I think it's more fun to see those things that link our vampires to their mortal life. The way Alice is trying to do the wedding with the flavor of Edwards era.

I hope he has an accent. I am Southern and I would love to hear someone have a Southern accent in the movie. Everytime I read Jasper's story in Eclipse, I can so see him sitting up on a horse with a Confederate uniform on. LOL!

Yes, I agree. ^ Jackson R. is perfect for the part.

And I also hear the drawl when Jasper speaks in the book.

Of course, like all the vampires in the series, they are great imitators, so he wouldn't have any problem turning it off as necessary.

Hope he has the drawl in the movie. Does anyone know?

I have a question about the Jasper from BD.

Does it seem that he has lost his "gentlemanliness?" Especially in his dealings with J Jenks. Do you feel that Jasper would menace a human to produce results as opposed to using the well-known vampiric charm?

I was greatly disappointed in his answer to Bella's question in BD.

I'm also from Texas, and I kinda pictured him with one. But if he has one.. then Alice has to have one too... from Biloxi? Oh yeah/

I'm a HUGE Jasper fangirl. My myspace headline says "I'd go pale for Jasper Hale" and my whiteboard at home says "HALE YEAH!" My poor husband!

I can't remember- do the books mention him having a southern accent or being from Texas at all before his story comes up? Because I always pictured him having one, and I can't remember if it's because it said that, or because I'm *awesome*. ;)

I totally fell in love with the idea of Jasper being a southern gentleman. GRRR. I've always had a thing for the Scarlett/Rhett relationship, southern thing going on! WHEW! Just thinking of Jasper decked out in his military uniform talkin' like a southern gentleman just sets my blood a racin'! Can you IMAGINE!! AHHHHH I think he may have dropped the accent as time went on, but hopefully he hasn't forgotten it!!!

I don't think he was ungentlemanly at all. Remember Jasper can affect the mood in a room. He can be completely genteel, but make those he's dealing with feel the unsaid threat. And remember who he's dealing with. This is not necessarily polite company, despite the nice offices and restaurants.

But why threaten when being charming would be as effective? Obviously it worked for Bella...and she felt that Jasper was a bit over the top. That pretty much killed the gentleman image of Jasper for me. The company with which he was heavy-handed isn't terribly important...especially since Jasper would most definitely have the upper hand. The man posed no real threat to Jasper, why turn around and be a threat?

I didn't have a problem with Jasper's "gentlemanliness" in BD or with J Jenks. I think being a gentleman means being respectful and chivalrous, but it doesn't mean you have to be nice to everyone. Jasper probably felt that J Jenks couldn't be trusted without some intimidation and Jasper wanted to protect his family. I never got the impression that Jasper was being overly aggressive toward J Jenks. It would be easier for Bella to charm J Jenks anyway, he seems like kind of a snake.
