my favorite jared moment is when wanderer tells him that she cant hear mel anymore and he is basiclly yelling at mel to come back. In that brief part you can tell just how much he loves mel and how difficult life has been and would be without her. In that moment i really felt for jared.

I loved this moment as well. This was Jared at his rawest moment, fighting with everything he had to save the girl he loved. When I see guys in such emotional states it really hits a nerve. I loved it!

That's exactly what I want to see more of! You know what I'd love more than almost anything? To have a book specifically written to tell Jared and Melanie's whole story--from the moment they met (and a little before), to how they fell in love, to when she was taken--all from Jared's point of view--him trying to move on, seeing her body again but taken over by another soul--AND ESPECIALLY THEM BEING REUNITED AGAIN!!!! Would that be awsome, or what!

If only....**sigh** I'd rather have The Host from Jared's point of view than a sequel to the original, frankly.

I have a feeling that the sequel will be from Melanie's perspective. I watched an interview with Stephenie saying that there are lots of other characters besides wanderer that she could use to write a sequel.

Before I watched this interview I thought that maybe Wanderer might get put into someone else's body, but now I think she really is dead and that the next book might be from Melanie's view point. One can only hope!

I know some people had issues with the physical abuse. But I think that you have to look at it from his perspective. He wasn't abusing Melanie, or even a woman. He was abusing an alien that was part of a force that had taken over his planet. Can you blame him? He couldn't hear what was in Wanda's head like we could. As soon as he started to realize what she truly was, he completely changed.

I really liked Jared. He's a very strong person. He does what he has to do for the good of what is left of mankind, which is usually not easy. He's also very devoted to Melanie even though he doesn't believe (for a while at least) that she is even alive anymore.

I'm with you entirely. I'm sooooo in love with Jared.

Does anyone else see Josh Holloway (Sawyer on Lost) as Jared? If you aren't familiar go to abc.com and look him up. But I think he is Jared. I haven't figured out who is Ian yet.

Ooooh! Josh Holloway in anything is fine with me! Actually, he might be a little old for Jared, but maybe we can overlook that!

I agree completely, I guess I'm not in the norm, but I never disliked Jared, even through the abuse. How did he know this "thing" was actually something/someone that he could learn to love in a different way than Melanie. At this point it's just an alien that literally has taken away the love of his life and is walking around in her body. I can't even imagine myself in that situation. I really wanted her to include the scene where Melanie wakes up and his reaction. Maybe SM will include it in a sequel-hopefully.

I just read on the Lex that Steph did an Q&A at her recent book signing in Portland. She said IF she did a sequel it would be from wanderer's perspective. And my favorite part is she said that Jared was telling the truth when he told Wanda that he loved her and all the other stuff!!!!

That's what made me love Jared. When he finally accepted Wanda and loved her too! Obviously not like Mel, but still loved Wanda.

It is good that we all are horrified at the abuse (both physical and emotional) that Jared doled out. There would be something wrong with us if we weren't.

I think that Stephenie made Jared very human. I think most of us can put ourselves in his shoes and imagine how we might feel being faced with a loved one who was no longer our loved one but taken over by what we considered a brutal, emotionless, hateful species. We may think that we could be more like Jamie. But I think Jamie is probably the exception.

Just think about history and how people react when they feel threatened by a group of people, and start to see those people as less than human. Hitler and his followers saw the Jews as less than human and responsible for their trials in life. Look at how we treated the Japanese in our own country after Pearl Harbor. Look at how we are dealing with people from the middle east today. When fear is combined with anger and loss, and we start to see those responsible as less than human, we react very similarly to Jared. You may hate him during the middle of the story, but he is us.
