Ok so it was pointed out to me that it is a good thing that rosealie kept her last name because it looks less conspicuous than dateing a guy with the same last name a her. We all know why she kept the Hale but it really did work out for her with emmet and in turn it worked out for Jasper and Alice too-it would have seemed a bit more wierd if the cullens we smooching all of the other Cullens. your thoughts on this.

I would imagine that the last names sometimes are interchangeable? For example, every time they moved to a new location they would take a new name. Like, when Rosalie and Emmet live on their own as a married couple I am sure it would sometimes be as Mr and Mrs Hale, Mr and Mrs Cullen, or even Mr and Mrs McCarty.

However, I definitely think that the couples keep different last names for that point. But even then - when Jessica is talking about them to Bella they still aren't 100% free of scandal.

Rosalie and Jasper resemble each other, in coloring, and probably in body type as well, because they are passing as twins in Forks. Emmett and Alice have the same color hair, so they could pass for siblings. The only one who is really different is Edward, with his hair and slender body type, but hey, I have two brothers and three sisters, and we all look drastically different.

it just seemed perfect that jasper and rosealie had her name. if they all went by cullen then it might make them look even creepier to the towns people. and it just seems to work out perfect that Alice is attached to the cullen name and jasper isn't and couldn't care less about his name. and with rosealie it makes sense to have a different last name than your husband to be (even befoer Emmett she was intended for Edward so there was gonna be love match eventually) so why make yourself a jones or a smith when you could just keep a name that your comfortable with and assosiate with a happy life that you can still try to complete even though it was cut short. It seems like she always getts a lot of flack about keep the Hale and how it all because she's a bit of a vain social climber type who was prideful about the status of the Hale name. but maybe that's just a part of it, what if it's partially because it's functional. (I am such a closet Rosealie fan don't ask me why but I like her)

I agree with you CullenFan about Rosalie keeping the Hale name as sort of a vanity thing. I also believe that she kept it because it was the one thing that kept her connected to her human life. I'm sure too that with having Jasper take the same last name made the story of Esme being their "aunt" a little easier for the people of the towns they live to believe them.

Good point lollylew, out of all the Cullen clan Rosalie seems to have a stronger connection to her human life than the rest.

I agree that Rosalie keeping her last name is a status issue. The Hale's were a middle class, upstanding family. When Rosalie was telling her story to Bella, it was obvious that she was very proud of her family's social standing.

It is puzzling, however, and makes me wonder if Rosalie went by the Hale name immediately after she was changed. I remember Edward being very concerned that Carlisle changed Rosalie because her family was so well known in Rochester. I'd imagine that they'd have had to have moved along really quickly if Rose were going to continue to use her family name.

I hadn't thought of that queen, I kept thinging that it made their lives easier while alowing Rose her conection to the life and the dreams that were lost in the fog of unspeakable horror without warning. I also ways felt bad for her thinking of her as clinging at threads never able to truley move on and let go (and if you can't let go of what will never be you will never really be happy) so I have thought of her as being broken and her beautifull mask as just a facade, a tool that covers that misery that lies just below the surface. I never took the time to think about how this affected the rest of the cullens, what they had to give up or stuggle through in order to indulge Rosealie in her stuggle to try and hold on to what is already gone. (personally I think the Rose could use some therapy. Oh that's right she's fictional I forgot for a minute )

LOL! You bring up some really wonderful points. I always felt that Rosalie's clinging to her human past was her one redeeming quality. I understood her "thirst" for vengeance against Royce and his cronies. Who among us wouldn't want retribution for a life stolen? I related to Rosalie's sadness at never having the opportunity to experience motherhood and the envy she felt for the life that Vera had established even though Vera's husband and social standing wasn't what Rosalie would have chosen for herself. I interpreted her keeping the Hale name as her way of bringing to her new life the one and only thing from her human life that she could cling to other than her memories.

I love to read other TMs points of view because they always get me thinking outside of my little box.
