Okay so I am the Mia Maid advisor for our church's young women (girls between the ages of 12 & 18). We were doing some camp certification and somehow we ended up on the topic of Twilight :D ! I knew that some of the girls had read it, but was I shocked (seriously they never talk about it like we leaders do) when they were so into it! I would like to have a personal progress party (we do one every couple of months to get them and keep them excoted about it) and somehow tie Twilight in to it. We leaders are all addicted and thought it would be a fun way to connect with our girls. Any suggestions or ideas?

What kind of activities have you done in the past? I think it would be a great activity, and I think you would have almost as much fun planning it as the girls would going to it!

I think it would be a wonderful idea!! Anything that encourages the communication between youth and adults is always a great thing and the fact that it would include Twilight as a topic makes it twice as great!!

I have not been involved with any church organizations in a really long time, so I really don't know what types of topics you go over but it would be great if the girls could list true attributes (not supernatural) of any of the characters that they would like to achive in their own personalities.

They could name the character then list each of the traits they would like to have or already have themself.

Esme
- unconditional love for her family
- optimist

Jacob
- never gives up (even though we would really like him to!!)

Or they could even list the qualities that they would like to overcome that they see in any of the characters.

Rosalie
- stuborness
- vanity

Jessica
- gossiping

I can't really think of any other ideas right now. If I come up with something else, I will come back to post again!!

I think what you should do first is to think of what the girls need in their lives and current situations, and then go from there.

Maybe they are having a hard time being accepted at school (like Bella)... or having a tough time with peer pressure (indivudual worth), maybe they need more help from a spiritual perspective. Or maybe there are some that are suffering from hardships (like Bella's Edward obsession when he leaves her)

So I would first access their needs, go with that and then see what themes in Twilight would parallel.

For instance, Bella has self confidence issues, even though so many find her beautiful and compelling.

There is the theme of forever love so that could maybe be a great temple discussion.

Bella is a little rebel and lies to her father and does dangerous things (boys sneaking in her room and staying overnight, motorcycles!) and in the book it's awesome b/c we looove Edward, but from a teenage perspective, they may identify with that too closely... so maybe a lesson on making safe and wise choices and feeling the spirit to help guide them. (choice and accountability)

In any case, I wouldn't focus the whole night onto Twilight, maybe decorate in red and black and roses or apples and tie it in, so they can connect on that level, but also keep it somewhat seperate.
