I was watching the MTV news about the movie, and heard that Twilight will be coming out in theaters two weeks after Harry Potter and they were like who is going to win in the box office. Who do you think will win and why? I can tell you I don’t know I love both so much and I will see both. And do you think it will hurt the series in movies if it doesn't do as well?

I think that Twilight will win. I say this because this is the first Twilight movie to be released (and with any luck, not the last). However, this is the 6th HP movie. Hasn't the popularity died down just a tiny bit over the years since the first HP movie was released?
I will say, however, that if it was HP #7 (or even #7 part deux), I think the match would be really close! _________________

As much as I love Harry Potter, I've already decided not to see it in the theater. Personally, I was debating on not buying the DVD but I've decided I am just to complete my collection.
I'm really hoping Twilight wins the "battle" but it will be very close.

I am not watching HP because it's hard to get someone to watch the kids, but I am definely watching Twilight . I will have to wait for HP when it comes out on video. Having kids changes everything, having more than one even more. _________________ "Before you bella, my life was like a moonless night. unfoutunatly i think harry potter will beat it out, especially at first. Because of how many people know about the last 5 movies and it being everywhere, which twilight isnt yet. But i do think that twilight after a couple of days of being in the theater and people telling their friends how amazing it is the ratings will go up! And if they make the second movie it will definatly beat out harry potter. _________________ ~"Don't be afraid," I murmured. "We belong together." ~

One advantage that Twilight has is that people going to see HP, will see the movie trailer for Twilight, and get excited about that, and want to see the movie. So, then we'll have all the Twi-hards, and new converts! _________________

Harry Potter is released two weeks beforehand; if it were being released the same week, HP would smash Twilight. As much as I love the series, HP quite obviously has a larger and more widespread demographic appeal. Because it's two weeks later, however, with the right marketing it could absolutely take the top spot, but we also have to factor in what else might be coming in around that time. A lot of big movies are released during Christmas... there's no way to know if HP will really be Twilights only competition.

This one's going to be tough. Both films, i think, will do exceptionally well.
However, I think that Twilight will do better, as HP has been done. Yes, it's the sixth movie, and it's new, but I think it's time to move on... besides, who would you rather look at: a teenage wizard, or a uber-sexy 100 year old vampire who can dazzle you with one look?
I know my vote! _________________ I look at my… son. His strength, his goodness, the brightness that shines out of him—and it only fuels that hope, that faith, more than ever. How could there not be more for one such as Edward?

I agree. I think HP will be #1 until Twilight comes out. But overall...I think HP will probably do better. Just because it does appeal to a somewhat broader audience. Like I know my hubby will go see HP. Twilight, on the other hand, not so much!

I'm sorry, I just don't compare the two. I get that if the two films come out within a similar time frame, obviously one will have better box office than the other.
For me though, I love both mythos. I will see them both and probably on multiple occasions.
For the sake of argument, I would wager a guess that HP will slightly out box office Twilight. The demographic is larger. Sure, right now the Twilight saga books are beating the HP series (I think I read that somewhere, I apologize if that's not the case), but the last HP book came out a while ago while the Twilight saga is getting its last installment in a few months. However, I'm not sure if that coincides with the film adaptations. Basically, go up to a neighbor, ask them if they know of Twilight then ask them of they know of Harry Potter. I'm willing to bet that more often than not they will know more of the latter.
Also, the comparison made in the MTV interviews, I found it more tongue in cheek than anything else.
Fun to speculate though. =) _________________

I don't know. This is a tough one. While HP does appeal to wider audience it has also gotten much darker and harder for parents to let their young children see it. While at the same time its become a traditional thing for families to go see HP.
While Twilight has had a phenomenal outbreak of popularity on the internet it will be interesting to see if it holds up in the box office. I know I'll see it all day long on the 12th. Over and over and over. Seriously! I think I'll make a day of it! lol! _________________

I don't know - They've got brooms! JK. No, it really is a tough one, but I think Harry Potter will win, but who knows? Maybe Twilight becomes even bigger when BD comes out and it'll have a bigger fanbase so.. Only time will tell. _________________

Even though the books are over, the HP fandom will start getting active again once they start realeasing movie stuff later in the year. Plus with Half-Blood-Prince, people are going to go because we see a pretty big character die in this one.
I think Twilight will do very well for awhile because it's the first movie in the saga. But I think Harry Potter will win out in the end as far as gross earnings go at the box office.
But does it really matter? I mean, I'll see HP, probably a few times, and I'll see Twilight, quite a few times. They'll both do good for who and what they're meant to. _________________
