I agree. I hate the competition

I'm with yall on this.

I love them both and I don't really think they're comparable. I will probably see both multiple times in the theater.

It's not a contest to me. If it were, there's only one winner: US!

I just about have no doubts the sequels will be made. As long as the movie is well made. Makes me wonder if before the 1st HP movie was released, (what back in 2000? or 01?) if that fan base was as big as Twilights? I'd be willing to bet it wasn't. It was largely regarded as a children's series. I think a future NM may have the potential to out gross HP7 in the box office.

Umm..no. The fanbase was MASSIVE by the time the first movie came out ;) It had been about 3 years since the first book came out and about 1 since the second. I remember everyone around me excited for the movie ;)

The fan base for the 1st HP was HUGE!!! And has only grown larger since the 1st movie.

I love both HP and Twilight and I think they will both do well. I really hope it does not turn into a competition between these two.

Well I must be the only one hear that really didn't enjoy Harry Potter movies. I always thought they were too far fetched and dark. It was also missing romance which drove me crazy. My son read the books and I just couldn't get interested. I loved the Twilight series so much I have read them 5 times now in four months. So I am excited for Twilight to kick Harry Potters but. The romance and action will keep everyone extatic. Sorry...........

I honestly don't think that New Moon will out gross HP7. I think it'd be the most anticipated of all the HP movies, considering all that happens in the book, and all the answers we finally got. I don't doubt that New Moon would do good though, if it's given the okay to be made.

But I do think it's terrible that it needs to be a competition, because they are both great stories. It's ridiculous.

Hmm. I guess I caught on to the Harry Potter phenomenon late! I started reading the books after the 4th movie came out. But I have to say, as much as I really loved reading the HP books, I love Twilight more. I think the characters have more depth.

I think this media-made fight is so contra productive!

Wouldn't it be great if all the Harry Potter fans would join our Love for twilight? Instead they have to kinda 'choose sides', that is so ridiculous. I'm really starting to get angry about it. It is definitely not good for Twilight and totally unnecessary. As far as I read here are very much Potter fans who love both, right? So have fun being a fan of both, period!

Ok, now I feel better

That was the same for me! I didn't start reading the books until after Goblet of Fire came out in theaters, but I'm still a huge Potter fan. I think the only reason I'm loving Twilight a bit more right now, is because it's new for me, and there is still a book we're waiting for. But it doesn't mean I love HP less, or ya know?

Exactly! There's no reason if you're a fan of both, to have to choose one over the other. It's okay to like both. :D

I do know that the actors have all signed contracts for all three movies. At least that is what I have seen on all web pages about the movie.

Its an easy hands down - Harry Potter will win. Harry Potter is more well known around the world. Sure, twilight knocked Harry Potter of the New York Bestsellers booklist for the number one place, but Harry Potter has a huge cohort of fans out there that are just hanging for the movies and that have never read the books. So combining those two groups, I think Potter will take the cake.

However, once the world gets a visual dose of Bella and Edward, there's nothing stopping New Moon from knocking Harry Potter off the number one spot for its release. If Twilight goes well, and it attracts heaps of people to the films like Harry Potter did (people who are not already fans) then i think New Moon as the potential to take the cake.

I agree - HP will probably win. But I also agree that I don't see this as a competition. It's like comparing oranges & apples. They are 2 totally different stories. I think they only reason they are being compared is because they deal with fantasy, RP is in both, and SM knocked HP off as #1. But when you read the books, they really are nothing alike.

HP will win. Gross for HP1 $90.3 million. But if it helps I won't see HP and I will see TW at least 3 times.

Sorcerer's Stone 90.3 million
Chamber of Secrets 88.4
Goblet of Fire 102.7
Prisoner of Azkaban 93.7
Order of the Phoenix 77.1

Notice the highest one is the one with Robert in it???? 8)

I think HP will do better in the box office, much for the same reasons already mentioned. I know for my part, though, my hubby & I already have a date for opening night of Twilight, and I plan to rent HP on Netflix when it comes to video.

The original HP movies were, I think, better than the newer ones. Yes, cinematically the newer are better, but the first two movies actually stuck to the books like glue. I go in for the accurate literaray adaptations more than the flashy vague outlines they offer now. I am praying that Summit understands this. I was happy with LOTR (though they took out Tom Bombadil! Grrr.), Narnia's TLTW&TW was excellent. But the most impressive to me is A&E's Pride & Prejudice. I actually saw this movie before reading the book, and realized the the book is pretty much a script of the movie. I trust any adaptation by Andrew Davies!

Another example of this is Jane Eyre (with Timothy Dalton). The film quality is atrocious, the music leaves a lot to be desired, but the acting and screenplay deliver Bronte's book flawlessly. If you're a fan of the book, you won't be disappointed in this version. The only problem I have is that Timothy Dalton is too handsome to play Mr. Rochester!

An example of a bad job is Eragon - don't know how they're going to clean up that mess. They probably won't even try. My only hope is that we won't be saying that about Twilight. The trailers look very good, though. Chances are we'll all be happy with it.
