I can't remember if it's been discussed in this thread or not--has anyone flat-out asked Stephenie what Edward smells like? Someone must have by now.

{going off to revamp 14 pages of topic....}

I suspect Stephenie would leave it up to us to imagine the yummiest scent possible. If it's like what BellandEdwardslullaby said then one would imagine the most incredibly cozy baked treat, like sugar cookies with cinnamon and/or pecans.

Edward is so elegant though, it would have to have a touch of gourmet! Something smelling like chocolate mousse cake with ganache...

After reading this thread I became consumed with the mission: to find the perfect Edward scent.

My daughter and I went to Bath and Body Works. We were trying on all sorts of lotions (Sensual Amber and pomegranate worked well together.) We were spraying scents in the air, trying to work out the best combinations. I felt I had to buy something, so I ended up with the Sensual Amber lotion and a few body splashes.

In my search I also bought Abercrombie and Fitch's cologne "Fierce". I've sprayed all my Twilight books with it for a more pleasant reading experience.

What a great idea! Very Happy This particular move might be what finally unnerves my husband, but I just can't resist finding a scent that says "Edward" and spraying my books with it. I imagine it must really add to the experience of reading (oh, who am I kidding--living) the story.

I agree! Innamorata's come up with a great idea. As soon as I settle on the perfect Edward scent, I'm goin to follow her lead.

And if I just can't settle on one, I wonder if I could have different delectable scents for the different books? Change the scent as his attitude changes over the course of the story?

Would they clash when they're together in their deluxe box set box? Would they fight? Who would win? Eclipse Edward, after all the ordeals he's been through, or Twilight Edward when he was still more vampire than human?

Amber Romance from Victoria's Secret....the minute I read about his breath and its affects I knew that it smelled like that.

Of course now I spray it all the time - everywhere - so that I can imagine he is close. Embarassed

Support Rob...he can use our love after all the bashing he's been getting from disgruntled fans. Spread the love....

I'm importing this post from the "Most Manipulative" thread because it has to do with why Edward has breath at all, and I also pose a question about whether the breathing could be suspended indefinitely. I'm hoping some of you will have theories or know of references about that.

I always wondered about that... Edward's "breathing". I mean since he's technically dead, he doesn't breathe, so I am guessing his "breath" really has a different from purpose from when we humans breathe. I guess it's for manipulation then Laughing

Sorry if you already know this

Here is waht SM said about there breathing its from the Lex

http://www.twilightlexiconblog.com/?p=37

Quote:
Q: And what’s with the breath? Can they get humans to do what they want by breathing on them? It seems that everyone Edward talks to - breathes on - gets dizzy. Well, the females at least. Is the breath soothing? Do they use it to lure prey?

A: Vampires just smell really, really good. Breath, skin, etc. It’s the fragrance of the venom that exists in various forms throughout their bodies. It’s a lure, like the beauty. It’s a smell that’s so good you want to smell it again, to get closer.

Thanks for posting this to my question! So... I guess the breath serves like a deathtrap for humans then Laughing They lure you in and then they bite. I wonder if Edward has control over "breathing" then.... Shocked

here is a thread that talks about edwards breath

http://twilightmomsforums.freeforums.org/edward-s-breath-and-its-effects-t625.html

Edward also explains in MS that it is very uncomfortable for a vampire to hold his breath. They don't need to breathe to oxygenate blood like we do, but they need their sense of smell. It is their most developed sense. It is not only a tool for hunting prey, it's also their first line of defense against enemies. They rely on it heavily and they don't like to disengage it. So, breathing is a big part of how they attract prey, hunt prey, and avoid danger.

Thank you, Amie, for posting the link directing people here. We're currently working on speculation about what Edward's breath might smell like, but questions such as those above are also welcome. For instance, I'd love to find out if Edward or any vampire can hold his breath indefinitely, or if he'd go crazy after a certain amount of time. Presumably, a vampire could live an aquatic life, only coming out of the water to feast on people. The occurences might be chalked up to "shark" attacks, or cruise ship passengers falling overboard....Could a Cullenized vampire like Edward live in a lake or ocean and feed on aquatic mammals, do you think? Wink Could he breathe underwater and utilize his sense of smell there?

ok so I know I posted earlier on this but I changed my mind. He can't smell like cookies or pie or something that is distiguished. IN NM she describes how with edward bare chested he smells even sweeter, but obviously she cant put her finger on the smell. Its edibible BUT not discript BUT she says delicious. SO I have decided, IT Caramel!!! Its Caramel and vanilla. UMM UMM Yep YEP YEP.

As for the breath and NOT Breathing issue. SO glad you brought it up.

OK A Bella theory here:

so his venom is debilitating, remember Alice said in Twilight, the venom is not that essential because they have so many other weapons that the venom is just for debilitating purposes. OK so , lets get technical for a moment. The breath of his venom, (which smells like delicious Caramel I have determined!!! but I digress) is debilitating just as much as the venom itself, which is why Bella is faint every time she breathes it in OR Notice when she kisses him she is always dizzy or faint, (well not taking in consideration that his body is hard, sculpted and just plan lustfull, ummmm, oh my Edward!)

As for the Manipulation, Yes, he is using it for Manipulation (in some instances, I believe)

Bella mentions that there is a coolness, so how about vanilla mint?

Hee...hee...I found some breath mints that were that flavor, and I was reminded of Edward's breath. Laughing
