I had to stop reading on page 210 after I couldn't see thru all my tears and then I bawled my way thru pages and pages at the end! Did the emotions of this book affect anyone else so deeply?

I wasn't much of a crier since I was so scared something was going to happen to Wanda and the humans through much of the book but when I read what Ian said to Wanda about holding her in his hand and seeing how beautiful she was, THAT is when the tears started flowing!! I thought they had dried when I talked with my mom about the book but when I told her about that part, they started again!! What love he has for Wanda

YES!!! I was just reading away, and then before I knew it I was all shocked that these tears kept flowing and I didn't even know why!!! It wasn't any "incident" that set me off, it was just heartbreaking moments. I can't put my finger on it, because it wasn't even the dialogue necessarily. I guess it's just Stephenie's writing, the way she spins a web around and throughout these characters that sucked me in and got me so involved.

I spent Friday night and Saturday morning crying my eyes out, literally sobbing to the point where My family was seriously wondering why I was so upset. My three year old kept asking "mommy why are you sad" I made him tear up because he was worried" I responded I am really happy really, now eat your cereal and watch Spongebob or Nemo. It affected me as much or more than dare I say it, that terrible moment in Newmoon....

Lolly, I think you meant Ian in your post :) but that was definitely my bawilng moment too. It all broke for me at the point. I thought it was so beautifully written and I loved seeing that love from Ian shown in such a tender way. I'm with you, I was too afraid to get attached and I think that might have held my feelings in. I was just so unsure of what was going to happen with any of the characters until it got closer to the end.

The maternal feelings about Jaime really got to me too. And just the complete tragedy of the whole situation- Wanda trying to make sense of her human emotions and Mel's emotions and poor Jared and Ian being so in love and desperate for their true loves yet not able to have them because... well... they were both in the same body. I was even emotional about how horribly Jared treated wanda while she was held captive.

And I just absolutely adore Wanderer! She just embodied everything good and charitable.

Would it be bad to make a WWWD bracelet? ("What Would Wanderer Do")

I didn't cry quite as much as you, but it's hard to make me cry during a book. (I didn't even cry in New Moon.) But actual tears were flowing right before those blank pages - when Wanderer was following through with her choice. I was just crying. I was very emotionally drained over the weekend becuase of my fictional stories (I finished HP 6 after I finished the Host.)

I cried twice once on page 356 about Walter and then at the end before the 2 blank pages. What Wanda was feeling was so close to what I was feeling while I read the book that it just made it that much harder. I really loved this book tho, it was fantastic!

I just finished The Host. Stephenie sure likes to use those blank pages. They sure are effective too. (That's the point where I lost it in New Moon. ) I just knew Wanda was gone. I am glad they found a host for her. Though I'm a bit bugged about her age. Did she lie because she is much younger than 18?
I didn't cry while reading the book but my nose got itchy a few times.

She added a year to her age, technically her new body is 17 but she knew that Ian would be respectful of her being a minor.

WWWD!!!! I love it!!

I agree. I was really touched by the maternal feelings surrounding Jaime also. He totally reminded me of my son who is only 5 but who has the sweetest purest spirit about him. There were a TON of emotions. Whew it was a rollercoaster. :)

I couldn't for the life of me stop the water works from coming out towards the last chapters...especially with Wanda's selflessness. She was willing to sacrifice herself for people who she grew to love...it tugged at my heart strings.

I bawled and bawled! Not just little tears either. I wanted Wanda to be with Ian, I wanted Wanda to be friends with Melanie as a separate person, I wanted Wanda to be good friends with Jared, I wanted Doc to not keep his promise. It was all so sad!

And then all so happy! Then I cried some more!! I cried because she was able to do all those things. I didn't think I could cry like that for an alien. But man, did I ever!

Yes! I wanted to bad for everything to work out, too. But while reading I thought "How could this ever work out? If Wanda stayed on earth she'd still be doing the wrong thing by taking someone's body". But it all worked out!!

At the beginning of the book, however, I did not like Wanderer. At all. And I don't think we were supposed to. Almost like our love for her grew just as the humans love and compassion for her grew. Like, how could I ever have sympathy for a body snatcher? But you totally do! Just like Meyers vampires are not really "vampires", her aliens are not really "aliens"! I wonder what she would turn other mythical creatures into?

I have been crying off and on since Jamie first started talking to her.
