Okay so my sis-n-law and I were surmising the other day about alice and what she sees. So here is my question...in Twilight when Edward is taking Bella to meet the Cullens, Bella asks if Alice saw her coming and Edward responds a little brgrudgingly "Something like that". So because Alice and Edward are sio close can Alice see someine who comes into his life BEFORE they do? We know that she sees Bella becoming a vampire, but did she see Bella in Edwards life before she came to Bella even came to Forks? It just struck me as odd as I was reading that part the other day (for the fourth time Embarassed )! Sorry I rambled and sorry if it doesn't make sense to anyone but me!!!! Let me know what you think!!!

Sunshine, I sort of agree in "wondering" about that in Alice's powers, too. But I also wonder that IF Alice had seen ahead of time that Bella was going to be coming to Forks and into Edward's life that she would have warned him since Bella's scent of her blood nearly drove Edward to kill her that first day in Biology class. Soooo, I'm thinking that Alice only saw what would happen to Bella once Edward first met her, and not before, because I truly believe that Alice would have warned him about Bella otherwise. I'm thinking this thing out as I go along. Does it make any sense? Confused Embarassed Laughing

Thanks I agree, heres another thought though...what if Alice didn't know Bellas blood was so strong for Edward? Can she tell those things or no? Or what if Alice did warn Edward and he being abit head strong didn't think it something to worry about. Maybe the answer will be in Midnight Sun Very Happy ! Just another annoying little thought that I had!! Thanks again for sharing!!

Since Alice can only see things once they are set in motion, she wouldn't have been able to forsee his reaction to the scent before Edward had meet her. Only his reaction after the fact.

Interesting that Alice wasn't waiting outside the school office door to keep him under control though, but perhaps she wasn't intune with Bella at that point either. (??)

Stephenie touches on this in the first chapter of Midnight Sun - Edward comments that Alice was too busy concentrating on Jasper to keep an eye on him. Check it out at http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/pdf/midnightsun_chapter1.pdf

Very Happy I'll need to go back and re-read that one. It's been months since I was there. Cheers Mr. Green

When I read that part I thought that Edward was not happy because Alice had seen Bella becoming a vampire. Had she made that decision by then? Am I way off?

You're a little ahead... I think that SM has stated that that vision didn't come to Alice until after Edward had met Bella. I think it's on the lex somewhere...

About Alice seeing that Edward would have such a reaction to Bella - If I were to guess I would assume that Alice may have seen that Edward had to decide whether or not to kill Bella, but that she probably saw visions like that all the time. Presumably she saw all her family having to decide whether or not to kill nearly every human they encounter, and that Alice just tuned all those visions out (like Edward ignoring most of the 'voices' in his head)?

Until Edward encountered Bella's scent, killing the entire class wasn't on the table, and by that point Alice was so worried that Jasper was going to attack someone that she didn't sense Edward's problem.

Maybe Alice sensed SOMEONE and it was all very general. I dont know, that is the impression I get. But when Bella showed up, she knew then. Like it was a bit of premonition but only became clear when she actually came to Forks. Does that make sense to anyone? Smile

That is a very interesting question. My feeling is that she only "saw" Bella once Edward met her. She "sees" their kind more readily. She didn't see Bella's transformation OR her relationship with Edward until he had met her AND Not killed her after that first meeting. Just my .02

That is what I was thinking. For some reason I had it in my head that she couldn't "see" things about a person until she came in contact with them in some way. It wasn't until Bella met Edward and that relationship progressed that she could see her becoming a vampire.

Wasn't it somewhere toward the end of Twilight where it all came out that Alice saw that? She might have seen it earlier but I think that is the first time it is mentioned.

Great question though!

I think that Alice saw Bella coming for quite some time now...I got this impression when she meets Bella in the cafeteria, and says "It's nice to finally meet you." I think that Alice saw Bella coming...maybe for years beforehand; who knows...Just like she saw Jasper, and waited for him for years. (that's right, isn't it? Confused I don't have Eclipse with me. Mad ) N-E-WAYZ, that's the impression I got...I think that she wouldn't have known Edward's reaction, becuz he hadn't smelled her yet.

Am I making sense? I've had a lot of coffee today...my brain is rambling. Shocked

This was discussed in the 'Sadness of Edward' thread under TW/NM/Eclipse, page 3:

While I was looking for something completely not related to this I stumbled upon this tidbit from a Q&A with Steph-

No. Alice did not see Bella becoming a vampire until after the incident with Tyler's van. She could have seen Bella coming to the school (if she'd cared to do so--humans are a little boring sometimes), but there was no import in it until Bella started to affect Edward's decisions...

Thats the impression I got too, after reading about how Alice and Jasper met.

Ok I know that this thread is more about Alice seeing Bella in her visions but something else I wanted to ask (I don't know if I need to start a completly new thread) is why didn't Alice see Bella make the decision to go to James? I just gone done reading about her conversation with him in Twilight and am confused that Alice didn't see Bella as it is described on page 430 "My decision was made.". If I don't get any answers from this post, I will just start a new one.
