Cassandra asks,
5. Why can Simon now be in the sunlight? (for those who've read City of Ashes)

Oh this one's easy. It's Jace's blood!
*wheels turning in my brain*
Hmmm....
This could be a clue to solving the mystery of Jace and Clary...I'm going to have to ponder that thought some more!
But back to the question. The change happened after Simon drank Jace's blood. And I believe Valentine knew what effects this would have, as he makes a comment saying "You have no idea what you've done, Jonathan." I think not only did Simon live, but since he drank Jace's blood, he'll gain some of Jace's powers. I also think that it's meaningful that Jace GAVE him the blood. Valentine says "You willingly let a vampire drink your blood?" I can't help but notice that willingly was printed in italics, as if the word was meaningful...now it could be just to show Valentine's disgust, but I have a feeling it's more than that...
*wheels continue to turn as I ponder this*
I'd just like to add...totally not related to the question but; When the sun was coming up, and Clary was hugging Simon, and I thought he was going to die...I was at work, and was already starting to cry. So I put the book down! I was so angry that Simon wasn't going to make it, that I didn't pick the book back up all day long. I went a whole day moping around and irritable, when all I had to do was read one more paragraph to find out the truth!!!! But the suspense and torture is part of the fun, so I'm over it now! _________________

I was thinking the same thing! It has something to do with Jace's blood and it is something that Valentine knows about. Maybe it has something to do with a Shadowcatcher saving a downworlder . . . but I guess that has happened before. This is going to bother me - I'm off to look for clues. _________________

I just thought it was because Simon essentially replaced his own blood with Jace's blood. The protection of the Angel's blood . . . _________________

I initially thought the same thing about Jace's blood being in Simon's body. I also wonder if maybe Simon's ability to be in the sun has something to do with the Angel blade that Valentine used to slit his throat. Valentine said that it was believed that "those who die upon it's point will achieve the gates of heaven", and Simon would have been dead if Jace hadn't come along. Maybe the Sword or Jace's blood has made him indestructible? _________________ " And so the lion fell in love with the lamb..."

I was really curious about this too. I think that we will find out Simon has a bigger part of this story than previously thought! Maybe he even has special powers, too! _________________

I know it has been said, but I think the reason is because Jace has Angel blood. Valentine said as much to him, and I think the Angel blood counteracted the effect of the part of him being a vampire that is demon... I worded that all wrong... but you get the idea _________________

I agree I think it has to do with Jace having Angel's blood. I also think Simon will play a MAJOR part in CoG!!! _________________

Initially, I thought that Simon could be in the sun simply because he drank Shadowhunter blood - now reading this question, I think that either there's more to it. Whether it's the Angel's blood as some of you have mentioned, or the sacrifice that Jace made for Simon's life, I have no clue.
What seemed so simple before now seems to be something else...

I'm just so glad Simon didn't die. I'm really attached to him. I normally just get attached to the two main characters and don't care so much about everyone else but I just think Simon is adorable. _________________

| ummm The only thing that comes to my mind is Jace blood. I read something about it in the Google groups. So my conclusion for the moment is that Jace is the reason why Simon can be out during the day, but he is not gonna have some shadowhunter power.

Your so funny. I agree with everything you said. Jace's blood, The Angel's blood.
That work day when you had to wait to find out the truth, probably felt like the entire middle of New Moon. Painful. _________________ "I'm here, which, roughly translated, means I'd rather die than stay away from you."

WOW Caroline yet another good theory. I was thinking after reading COA that Maybe the blood effects would not last long and fade like Rafaels blood did the first time Simon Drank it (remember he said after a while Simon would have been normal again had he not gone back to them the night he really changed). I can not wait to see what happens with Simon in COG and his new "blood". I really like your theory here! _________________ ♥Nikki♥

I thought I read somewhere that it was due to the fact that he drank Jaces blood. and Jaces blood is Angels blood, right? _________________
